Are you making these 3 Common Mistakes that can decrease your Kindle Profits by as much as 90%?
Over the past month I’ve been implementing my new Kindle Strategy. My new strategy is based on the results of four months of experimenting and testing different ways of finding profitable niche markets, creating content, and getting high rankings in the Kindle Marketplace.
Since I’ve been in the trenches — testing, observing and tracking everything I did — I found several preconceptions about Kindle Publishing that are completely, utterly wrong.
In fact, these misconceptions are drastically hampering your ability to maximize your earnings with Kindle Publishing.
Here are three things you need to stop doing right now:
1) Using the Google Keyword Tool to find Kindle niche markets.
Listen… I love the Google Keyword Tool. Heck, Micro Niche Finder is based off the Google Keyword Tool. And I use it every day to find niche markets for Adsense and Affiliate Marketing.
But, Kindle Publishing is a whole new ballgame. You cannot rely on the Google Keyword Tool to find niche markets for Kindle publishing.
Many times, I’ve found markets that (according to the Google Keyword Tool) should be great yet turn out to be terrible markets for Kindle ebooks.
On the other hand, I have one niche that according to Google has only 800 searches per month, yet I sell as many as 100 ebooks per day in that niche.
Here’s the problem: people search Google for information and not necessarily for things they want to buy.
So, what should you use to find profitable niche markets? Amazon! Amazon is itself a massive search engine of products. Products that people are looking to buy!
Unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t have a keyword tool in the same vein as Google’s External Keyword Tool. But they do list the sales rank for every product sold (including Kindle ebooks) and that can give us a very good idea of the profitability in a market. For Kindle ebooks, I like to see at least one ebook on the first page in the Kindle Marketplace for a particular niche with less than 25,000 Sales Rank (with sales rank, lower is better).
2) Targeting only Long-Tail Keywords (and not targeting Broad Keywords.)
This is going to be a real shocker for many people. We’ve been taught over the past few years to go after the long-tail keywords and leave the broad keywords to the dumb deep-pocketed corporations who don’t know any better.
While that may be true for search engine rankings, it’s not true for Kindle Marketplace Rankings. In fact, right now it’s as easy to get your ebook ranked high in the Kindle Marketplace for a broad keyword as it was in 1997 to get your website ranked on page one in the search engines.
This won’t be the case for very long but the people who take advantage of it now will reap the rewards for years.
3) Taking a “Set and Forget” Attitude.
I’ve been guilty of this too. Basically, throwing up a bunch of ebooks on Kindle and hoping one or two generate significant sales. Lather, rinse, repeat.
That’s the wrong approach. It worked to some degree back when Amazon was more concerned with having a bunch of ebooks in the Marketplace than they were with the quality of the ebooks.
Today, when I find a profitable niche (and that’s most of the time with my new research techniques) I go deep into the market. Instead of creating one ebook and then going on to something else, I’ll create three or four and sometimes five ebooks in the same niche.
I wish now I had followed my new strategy all along. I would have made a lot more money.
But, no use crying over spilled milk! I know this year I’m going to Absolutely Crush It (as my good friend John S. Rhodes would say.)
In fact, check out these stats:
In the month of December, 2011 — after implementing my new strategy — I had more Kindle sales than all the rest of 2011 (January – November) combined.
From December 2011 through yesterday I’ve had more Kindle sales than the prior 4 years combined!
My new strategy is explained in detail in my Kindle Triangulation Course which will be released later this month. However, I’m going to give away 25 advance review copies. To qualify for a review copy please leave me a comment about this blog post. The 25 best comments will receive a review copy of Kindle Triangulation before its released.
2012 is going to be a great year for Publishing and I’m really excited about helping you create your ebook Publishing Empire.

Excellent points made. Ebooks are not going anywhere anytime soon. I have been reading several Kindle how to’s recently. Does yours nail down how to get good content for your books?
I have been looking to publishing for the last month through webinars and othe on-line information and I noticed how there are a few different approaches that aer being promoted. I found your article contained helpful advice and consistent with the appraoch that I am starting to outline for myself going forward in the next few months. Although you do mention quality briefly in section 3, I would suggest failure to focus on quality content could have been a fourth and final point or mistake that people ned to remember about. My sense is that there will be new changes coming to this market to tighten up on quality and content.
Hi,
Great post. I am a Kindle publisher and am currently ramping up my publishing. Looking to learn all I can to be a successful publisher.
James, it looks like the kindle opportunity is almost like the movie blockbuster “Back To The Future” in as much as some very basic techniques will, at least in the short to medium term, bring in outstanding results…just like them “gold ol’ days” way back when!
A bit of belief and creativity mixed in with a dollop of action will see the $$££ roll in.
Happy days indeed.
Cheers
EA
Hi James,
Thank you for this informative post.I too am diving in to Kindle publishing this year and am pleased to see that Amazon is no longer accepting rehashed PLR rubbish. Publishing on Kindle is a huge opportunity for us all, but only if we offer value to our readers, so they seek out other books that we have written. Therefore it pays to produce good content that will interest and inform our readers.
I await your new course with interest and would love to have a review copy…
Thanks,
Mary
James – this is very exciting and exemplifies why those that stick with something, or least don’t give up on something, will excel in the long run.
I purchased your very first e-book on how to market on Amazon years ago, seems like forever ago, and know you have diligently been in tweeking this business model probably longer than anyone.
It appears the level of competition among bandwagon IM’rs is growing exponentially just in the past 3 months – a major clue! For this reason, I can’t wait to get my hands on your latest course. Frankly, while the latest Kindle slap and other issues should help ethical marketers, it appears to me that a road map is needed today more than ever.
Congrats on the training and looking forward to it!
Kent Faver
Hi,
I totally agree with you! I have been working on my first manuscript for a couple of weeks now and am almost getting ready to publish. I do believe that there is good money to be made with Kindle if approached in the right way, and if not your book could sit and be un-noticed so there is a way of going about publishing.
I would be very interested in a review copy just to see what your ideas are as I’ve been researching this for a while now. I only want to go forward and upward and you are a great teacher!
Kind regards
Elly
Hi James,
I’m excited to see that you are going to be releasing your strategies soon. I jumped on the Kindle publishing with modified PLR (Ultimate PLR Collection, anyone?) just too late – in time for Amazon to tell me that my books were being pulled.
So I’m ready to pick up a different way. I want to release modified chapters from my (original) trading courses as a series, but I haven’t checked yet whether that’s searched for, so I guess I should do that before putting any time in.
Alan
The idea of using Kindle to make money never occurred to me. I would assume that some of these techniques might also work for the Apple Ibook market, and the Barnes and Noble reader market? I will wait impatiently for your Kindle Triangulation Course to appear! I have spent thousands of dollars trying to make money on the internet and have not tried this approach. If it works for me, I will sing your praises forever; if it doesn’t work for me, I will most probably give up on the whole internet thing and consider myself as not having what it takes … strange, you gurus make it sound so simple.
Hi James – my first read of your blogs and certainly wont be the last. It looks as though the expert information you provide will be extremely valuable for my foray into a new venture and it has certainly whetted my appetite for more. I look forward to further reading and the opportunity of putting this into practice. Many thanks
I’ve been doing traditional SEO since Google first emerged. However, Kindle publishing is new to me. I have three eBooks in the works and I look forward to hearing what you have to say to help make these a success.
Paul
Hi James,
thankyou for sharing this knowledge with us. I reckoned it was only a matter of time before Amazon would put the hammer down on regurgitated content. I understand back then, it worked well, but it’s great to see you have evolved with the times and now offer us a cutting edge strategy. Your course looks set to save us a lot of frustration and more sales in the coming months. I have your quadcash system course and found it extremely useful. I would love to compliment this course by reviewing your Kindle Triangulation Course. All the best, Graham
Your experience and insights on the Kindle marketplace are invaluable. It just seems on the internet that you have to innovate and track — and keep innovating and tracking — or you get left behind. It really doesn’t matter which specific business model you adopt. Being a Kindle publisher using PLR (or an affiliate) does not get you off the hook for thinking ahead.
Hi James,
Yeah, I agree, the Ultimate PLR Collection was nothing but JUNK. 15 ebooks taken from your PLR Collection removed from Amazon. You definitely have to stress RE-WRITE, RE-WRITE, and RESEARCH. Bad thing about PLR, most people will not rewrite – just publish. Thank god you can’t do that on Kindle anymore.
John
Hi James thanks for the insight on Kindle, I bought Jonny Andrews Wso course on Kindle and he pointed out some of the things you are saying i must say he i gave some really good insight but at the end of the day i have no idea how to even setup Kindle so i am hoping that you will have a start up course on how to build Kindle from scratch, your report is unbeleiveable what you have made for the last couple of months incomparable to your last 4 years, i would love to learn from you
James,
Your post is great because it is based on your experience. Seems like a lot of people take the Google Keyword tool as the gospel. But as you say, it is for seekers, not buyers.
And obviously I need to add the broad keyword approach to my Kindle marketing. Somehow we have been brainwashed into thinking what applies to big G applies to all online marketing, but that is far from the truth.
“Set and forget” seems like a great idea but in reality there is always a way to make any offer better. Things change quickly on the Internet and what may have worked last year (heck even last month) may still work but there is probably a tweak or even a new process than can improve results.
You know, when you find something that is working it only makes sense to hammer it.
All the best,
Lowell
I would like to publish a Kindle book and have been gathering information to that end. However, your blog has created questions about how to publish information. For instance if I wanted to create a book about diabetes – do you think it would be better to write a comprehensive book about preventing diabetes, diagnosing diabetes, and treating diabetes …Or, would you break these subjects up and create 3 different books? I’m gathering information for a health niche and would like to put everything I have learned in one book – but your blog has raised questions about that very strategy. Learn from the experts – so I’m asking you..
)
I wrote two memoirs with the titles that I wanted them to have – “Don’t Let Your Dream Business Turn Into a Nightmare” and “So, Why Have You Never Been Married?” – not based upon keyword research. Keywords are not, by definition, intended to be clever – they are intended to be obvious, which is why they make rather pedestrian-sounding book titles. If there is a way to be found in Amazon’s search engine for your book with a catchy title, that will be a huge plus for writers. If anyone can figure that out, it will be James Jones. (Yeah, James, I want a review copy of your product and every other product you offer, of which I have purchased quite a number.)
The Kindle publishing is very interesting, and I wonder if (or when) Amazon will turn nasty like Google.
Except ‘set and forget’ how can you tweak a Kindle book once it was published?
Can you delete it and upload a different one?
Hi James,
Your post just turned my thinking upside down. Thanks for the info. I am new at all this and was taught to use GKWT and since I have MNF I use that also. I was also taught to write, publish and go to the next one. I have tons of PLR from you so content is waiting. Just got to find the subject. I would like to know what else you found out in your research to write your Kindle Triangulation Course.
Hi James,
The “get it up, set it and forget it” mentality is epidemic. These books are assets, and similar to rental property they need at least some attention in order to earn their keep. And just like with real estate, where location is the key, the “niche neighborhood” you choose for your Kindle books will make all the difference.
Thanks for your continued efforts to make us successful!
Susan
Greetings James,
Thanks for sharing your lastest data on Kindle Publishing. I recently purchased MNF to use for the exact same purpose and looking forward to see how you adjusted your strategy to increase your sales. I only have a couple of Kindle Books online and want to increase the quantity going forward.
With your recent data and change in strategy of producing better quality, it appears that Kindle is scrutinizing for quality and it’s no longer just a numbers game.
Hi James and everyone,
I just got off watching a webinar about publishing for the Kindle apparently Amazon were selling 1 Million a day on the run up to Christmas! Christmas day itself saw massive amounts of downloads. I guess everyone wanted content for their new Kindle toys
I’m very interested in doing this not just to make residual and compounding cash but to also see if it can be used in a way to help promote other things. (I have a little idea
)
I’m guessing that once you have the Kindle version then that can be leveraged by listing on other sites like Createspace and Nook.
Looking forward to your product coming out, and some sensible tips in the blog post BTW.
Thanks
Lynne
James,
Thanks for the advice. I now wonder why I never thought of the Google Keyword thing myself. Boy…I feel like a dumb a$$ now.
After watching the replay of the Tablet Cash Machines webinar, it got me to thinking about niches to look for in Kindle to give publishing another try.
I had published about 27 or so books in Kindle (using the plr method) but lost almost half from their ‘duplicate content penalty’. However, I have made about a sale a day so far this month … WITH the loss. I still get a paycheck from them monthly anywhere from $30 – $70. Niche websites are not that consistent!
So, I am going to give it another try..and even found a keyword to hit up, and with your advice… more in that save niche. Since, I cannot afford an outsourcer, I will be writing my own content. I am planning on spending at least 1 hour a day on it.
Kindle better watch out and prepare to write me some bigger checks…because I am coming.
Thank you a ton,
Kevin
Hi – Sounds like market/keyword research for ebook/Amazon is a unique type of research, compared to researching a general niche site. I am very interested to learn as much as I can about ebook publishing and Kindle sales. Since I don’t have much experience in this area, it would be wonderful to learn from someone with your level of experience and insight. Thank you for sharing. Continued success!
Jess
As someone who helps coachers, trainers, authors, entrepreneurs get their books written and found on Amazon Kindle this is the type of information I need. Your expert testing and clear explanation of the results makes recommending your products very easy. Thanks for doing such a great job.
I would love to be one of the first to see your new product and give a review! Thanks for sharing this and I look forward to this coming out.
Reading your blog is like ‘putting the cart before the horse’…..having great difficulty loading e-books onto Kindle. At least I now know what not to do when I finally arrive at the Amazon door of ‘fame and fortune’. Ready and willing to learn a lot more from your future course…..sounds interesting.
Hi James,
Yours is one of the few lists I remain on, and this post is a perfect example of why I’ve stayed for so long. Not only does it offer some extremely valuable advice, but you didn’t feel the need to put it in video form. Thank you for that!
I got my start online with freelance writing, and I’m very excited about the possibilities of returning to my roots with Kindle publishing. The 3 points you listed will no doubt shorten my learning curve, and I thank you for sharing.
You’ve always been such a down-to-earth kind of guy, with your adorable Southern accent which has always made me feel like I can trust you, and thus far, you’ve never let me down. I have no doubt the Kindle Triangulation course will be just what I need to “re-Kindle” my writing career. (Hehe…pun intended)
Thanks again for the great advice!
Honey
P.S. I used to think that you and Travis Sago sounded so much alike, that maybe you were the same guy! LOL!
Hi James,
Thanks for the great tips! I have just recently been learning about Kindle Publishing and have been a sponge soaking up the information on it. Now am ready to implement!
Exciting news about your sales. That’s a great endorsement for your new product but of course all your products are fabulous and I have a bunch of them.
Would love to review this one.
Cheers,
Rhonda
Great post James. I am just getting into the Kindle market and I’m using the same strategy of staying within a niche but covering different facets of it so that you become known it that niche. Too much crap was put up on Kindle to try & skim quick profits but forgetting real people buy them and can tell right away when they got rehashed crap. Buyers are different at Amazon than people searching Google and you need to understand the buyer and your niche down cold and then give them want they want to buy, you don’t have to even sell at that point because once you know your buyer (how old is he/she, income, demographics) and you know your niche, you know what they are THERE TO BUY! And like James says, don’t have one ebook for them, have multiple titles that cover the niche from several angles.
I too am glad to see rehashed PLR get the boot. Even though it was easy I think quality books that you own the rights to (and update periodically) will in the long run pay off much better. I love residual income.
Great ideas! I am a kindle publisher and always looking for the edge in the marketplace to standout. When I first started the marketplace was very easy to get in now its become very difficult because of all the competition for others. There is always a way around everything:-)
Lopaze
Glad to see you mentioning the google keyword tool as a bad way to do research for kindle ebooks.
I bought a few courses so far about kindle publishing and all of them rely on google keyword tool to do the market research and come up with an idea. One of them recommends using the Clickbank marketplace as well for finding niches that would sell well on amazon (and I think you know whose course I am speaking of)
You want to sell ebooks on Amazon? Then go to Amazon and do your research and find out what sells well there. Otherwise it’s like you’re trying to come up with a product to sell to Eskimos and you are asking blonde, long hair surfer dudes from Hawaii what would be a good product.
I just launched my first kindle ebook, so far I have 50 units sold and it has been only one week. I am so excited that I think I am going to buy your course just because of all this excitement.
Thanks, James. Excellent material that I had not seen elsewhere. I was going down the wrong path while following the conventional strategy. I’ll apply your wisdom, now.
I have a couple of books on Kindle that have not made any money. Thanks for the tips on mistakes. I seem to have made them all. Looking forward to see what your new course has for us that are struggling.
Thanks again,
Rich
James. Looking forward to seeing and testing your new strategy. I agree that Amazon is a vast search engine and what better place to do kindle research is to do it wherr the books are actually sold. Very nice of you to invite others to review and capitalize on your much researched strategy. I am sure a lot of people will benefit from it…
Hi James,
I’m just (FINALLY) starting of in Kindle, and all being well I have 2 books that are almost ready to go. One is pure me and has had no research done on it, the other has been done by the book so I am curious as to how they will do
I love the potential of Kindle and the other ereaders, and the potential, especially if you get it right is mind blowing.
I do like the bit in your article where you talk about exploiting the full potential out of a profitable niche, that is something that is all to rarely mentioned.
Have fun,
Mike
I believe around two months ago you called me (lucky me) for few kindle publishing tips which was supposed to be a teaser for your new kindle course.
For two months you never said any words about this new kindle course yet last week suddenly you promoted tablet cash machine which covers not only kindle publishing but all other tablet publishing. So I thought you cancelled to publish your new kindle course and promote tablet cash machine instead.
I was so disappointed in you for not keeping your promise.
But today is a different feeling, I’m feeling “WOW how come I never thought about these” and “YES! Finally James is releasing his new kindle course”.
Can’t wait to get my hand in this kindle course especially with your profound research techniques.
Kindle Triangulation eh…interesting. I have been using Micro Niche Finder for years. I have had great success getting my articles ranked.
But I did find it was not giving me all the umph I wanted in the Kindle marketplace.
Currently I use a mini-blog (5-6 pages) to promote each book I put on Kindle(not as hard or time consuming as it sounds, just take excerpts from the book and boost them a bit with valuable keywords.) For those articles and posts I find Micro Niche Finder invaluable.
I’m thinking that with your new Kindle Triangulation method for finding saleable niches in the Kindle market and Micro Niche Finder to boost placement of the blogs…WINNER WINNER better than the Lotto
Hi James!
I’ve been studying the Kindle and overall ebook market for a couple months now and I’m about ready to jump in. As a writer, the opportunity this market offers is phenomenal.
Consider this:
- 1 in 5 US adults are now reading ebooks on ereader devices
- USA TODAY’s latest Best-Selling Books list sales figures(which tracks combined sales of e-book and print editions) from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 shows that for 42 of the top 50 titles, the ebook editions were the most popular format. Ebook format for those titles outsold physical copies! 42 out of 50! Incidentally, the previous high was in July, with 25 of the top 50. So the market is growing quickly.
- 5.5 million Kindle Fires were sold in the 4th quarter of 2011 (one of those was mine) and Christmas Day was the busiest download day Amazon has ever seen.
I’m sure you already know all this but I find it fascinating and motivating. There is amazing potential in digital content creation. And we’re only just getting started. It’s a great time to be a writer! =)
Oops. I’ve already made the mistake but read this just in time to change course. Thank you so much!
Thank you for the great tips. As a new kindle publisher, I am trying to learn the best possible ways to make myself more productive. Im sure that your new course will be packed full of useful information.
Well now James that is some great information! It can be hard to go against what the “gurus” say but if what you need to do is the exact opposite of what they are saying, then let’s do the right thing instead of the “accepted” thing. That is especially good new to me about the huge opportunity with broad keywords and has really got my wheels turning. Thank you also for staying “on” this topic and marketing strategy because the whole tablet computing thing is even bigger than most people realize. I love books but even I am beginning to look at my shelves and shelves of books and think: “Hmmmm, sure would be nice if these were portable and I could carry them all WITH me!” Can’t wait to get Triangulated!
Great info for Kindle publishers. I personally have not got into Kindle yet, Look forward to implementing the strategies in you new guide. Thanks.
Brilliant as always. Being a newbie to kindle publishing, i hope this new product helps me
I’m interesting in the trade-offs between a single book vs a paid community around a bundle of book-like content (e.g. a TeachingSells model). And how those might work in an area that’s not driven by immediate-action-and-ROI (e.g. the book I’m starting to scratch on is in the Parenting area).
James,
I’m so curious to see how you’ve adjusted your Kindle strategies since the crackdown on PLR. To get insight from someone in the Kindle publishing trenches whose been able to ajust to the changes is unmatched.
I’ve already decided that for 2012, I’m mastering Kindle publishing as a business model. I’m adjusting my vision from “shiny object syndrome” and setting my sights on the Kindle prize.
I’m an avid reader, regular Amazon shopper and made my first and only affiliate sales have been through Amazon. This is an area of online marketing that I engage in regularly as a customer and will continue to whether or not I make money…so why not make money this way? Plus the other ways I’ve made money all revolve around writing/creating content. It makes so much sense for me!
Brilliant as always. looking forward to new product
I starting geting into this after getting your Kindle Profits and now have Tablet Cash Machines.. I just got my first book published on Create Space and going to get it on Kindle, and Nook today….I have a ton of PLR and the roots of my 1st book is PLR……Are you continuing to use PLR, and if so, to what extent are you rewriting it? I also bought and was a little diappointed in “the Perfect Publisher” That creator, Jonney Andrews is vehemently against PLR…..I would appreciate your oppinion before I proceed to crant out a bunch of books. I want to make sure I am on the right ‘page’ as far as using PLR, and I respect your opinion as I have been following you since the early days of Micro Niche Finder. Also was getting ready to buy your book creator….Is that still a useful tool?
James your blog post reveals a lot of lessons that we Internet Marketers must take to heart if we are going to succeed at building a Kindle publishing business. Such as:
(1). Regarding Kindle publishing, what was true yesterday may not be true today. Publishing with Kindle is always changing and we must change to prosper. We love the Google Keyword Tool, but if it does not get the job done in Kindle Publishing then we transition to more effective research that produces profitable results and leave the Google Keyword Tool for research in other areas of marketing where it is effective.
(2). Listen to those who are in the trenches doing research and making sales, like James Jones, instead of those who are in ivory towers only presenting webinars and writing eBooks based on hear say and other’s research and experience. In reality these who are not actually publishing for the Kindle Reader and are not making sales are too often only con-men.
(3). Those who change and take action with new research and new tools and techniques will prosper. Sometimes we have to un-learn, and adjust our thinking when there is a shift in
the paradigm. If Broad Keywords work better than Long-Tail Keywords, no need to cry and say, “Hey, I was just getting the hang of creating Long-Tail Keywords.” That’s ok, your knowledge and skill has not been wasted. We need to just do what works. Sort of like, give Google what Google loves. OK we just need to do whatever it takes in research and application to get some Kindle Love.
(4). James confesses to what most of us have been guilty of, “Set and Forget,” Attitude. In other words, hurry up and just do something and hope you make some money doing it or keep working until you make some money and then do that again and again. This is time consuming and can get discouraging. It gets pretty boring throwing a lot of mud against the wall hoping some of it will stick. Yes, we do have to take risks, calculated risks that is, and we have to test the market, but there’s a better way. And that is, learn from the research that others have done, like James has, and then when you find a profitable niche then stick with it. If you are a farmer and you make a killing on potatoes why jump to the other side of the field and start raising tomatoes? Why not, put more effort into raising potatoes? Plant and grow bigger and better
potatoes and find more uses for potatoes and build a profitable empire around potatoes and then switch and see if you can do the same with tomatoes, corn, green beans and a host of other niche vegetables. But first, do the research, do what it takes to be profitable in on area and find the strategies that help you to produce the best results.
James Jones does his homework. He researches, plans, testes and comes up with products, stratgies and tools that are very effective and profits from his efforts. But, best of all James shares his findings with other Marketers.
No doubt this new, Kindle Triangulation Course, will be top shelf, “Need-to-Know” information about Kindle Publishing and will be profitable for those who take action.
Thanks for sharing your findings James.
Can’t wait to hear about what you have learned.
please consider a review copy of Triangulation
I will be delighted to review a copy James. Thanks!
You make excellent points. Everything that you discovered will be financially profitable for all who implement your strategies. Another area where I feel people make a big mistake is in formatting their Kindle Books. I will not buy a kindle book that is not properly formatted. Trying to read a poorly formatted book is a major pain.
Well, true to form JJJ always seems to come out with innovative and well researched products that just seem to work, looking forward to the release of the Kindle Triangulation Course.
I have just had my annual clear out of email subscriptions leaving only 5 in place, obviously James Jones is one of them, thanks for always providing quality information that is always worth listening to and acting on

As with everything that is new (and abused in many cases), Amazon is going to wise up soon to all the rehashed and regurgitated content and wipe a lot of ebooks off their list.
For a while, they needed all the ebooks they could get to supply the growing Kindle market, and quality was not a big concern whilst they concentrated on quantity, but that is slowly turning around.
I published 2 ebooks in the same niche in November – one had around 40 pages and the other around 60 pages. Some of the content was the same but overall, I made enough changes (I thought) to make them different. Amazon banned the shorter ebook saying it was too similar to the other one.
Amazon is focused on customer satisfaction. If a customer buys one ebook in a particular niche, chances are they may buy another and they will not be happy bunnies if the content is the same.
They complain to Amazon and if there are enough complaints, Amazon will start looking into the duplicate PLR and public domain content; or the bulk publishing of some ‘authors’ and the publisher will be zapped before they can say ‘ebook’.
One click is all it takes.(Think of all the affiliates who lost their Amazon accounts over night in various states because of the sales tax).
So while I am going to concentrate on publishing ebooks this year, I will be making sure that the content I put out makes sense and is of a quality that will sustain my publishing empire long term
James,
I, too, am looking to “Crush It” in 2012 with Kindle. I fancy myself an above average writer with an affinity for Photoshop (think cover and internal page photos & graphics design).
The missing piece of the puzzle is a viable strategy with which to implement my ideas and list my Kindle books.
I have purchased many of your programs/products and they are all quality, which is why I’m a subscriber to your list.
Your new Triangulation method sounds intriguing and I would like to be chosen to receive a review copy and apply the method.
For the record, I have implemented adsense, video, domain flipping and product creation strategies – all of which I have purchased from you – and I have made money with all of them.
Thank you very much!
Wayne Nelson
Hi James
Thanks for an interesting and informative post. It just goes to show that successful methods in one sort of marketing will not necessarily be the way to go in another.
I haven’t yet tried to publish on Kindle, but I hope to do so before long.
Regards
Dave Prowse
After having listened to two people in the last couple weeks who are making in the five-figure range via Kindle, I know that you’re right on target. With your usual attention to detail and brevity, I am confident that your Kindle Triangulation Course will be as worthy of ownership as Micro Niche Finder. I look forward, with anticipation, to the release of your new course.
Hey – it really looks like 2012 will be the year of the “Kindle Gold Rush”.
Having put the frighteners on PLR peddlers this should be the year for good content and a longer lasting opportunity for those who play the Kindle game by Amazon’s rules.
Thanks for your keyword research pointers and the niche series idea. They certainly make sense when thinking about the market from the customers viewpoint. Looking forward to more Kindle gems from your new course.
This is great advice; I am so glad I clicked over. Of course, James always gives us good advice (blatant flattery to help me be chosen for a review copy
– oh, wait, flattery is generally exaggerated and this claim is not!) I think the most important point here is to use Amazon itself as a search engine to find what people are buying. Skip the tire kickers over at Google and go straight to the buyers at Amazon!
Hi,
I recently ventured in the internet world, and my experience have not been rooted, and hence my affiliate site is “zero” stats. How can I market the kindle book? I heard from several trusted sources that google is making it almost impossible for people to make money online:(
Please reply.
Hi James,
Thanks for all those valuable tips. I think we’re all starting to realize that junk content is not going to make it in this new world of internet marketing. Perhaps we could call it Internet Marketing 2.012 LOL
I would love to be one of the 25 (just in case you didn’t know);-)
Since I don’t spend much time making comments, I might as well take the opportunity to say thanks for all the things you’ve taught me over the years.
Don
Hi James-
The times they are a changing for Kindle Publishing, aren’t they? They want only high quality content provided to their buyers. Who can them? Their very reputation is at stake after all. No more buying crap PLR, throw it up without a second look, and see what sticks. Those days are over people. I was a victim of the Kindle slap, and lost 66% of my books. I feel fortunate I didn’t have many up at the time. I encourage everyone to submit only quality books to Kindle. Everyone will pay the price dearly if we don’t.
I whole heartedly agree with you on using Amazon to dig for information on what is selling. I have been doing that of late myself. It makes a world of difference!
I consider myself a person who eats and breathes Kindle Publishing, as well as Nook and CreateSpace. I never made any real money with affiliate marketing, then I found your original Kindle course, James. That course was the beginning of a big change for me as far as selling online. I have since ditched all my affiliate sites reviewing products I was never interested in anyway. I am now making some real money-and I know I can vastly improve on that. The amount of Kindle products that were sold over the holiday season were mind blowing, to say the least! The future is here, and it is now. We are indeed lucky people to have jumped in during it’s infancy. One of those moments you don’t want to pass you by.
I guess I have come full circle in my life. I am now revisiting everything I ever loved about reading, writing and now publishing. I am loving every second of it!
Thank you for putting out that first course of yours awhile back, and I look forward to seeing what you have to offer in the near future!
Many thanks and kudos, Mr. Jones!

I have been publishing Kindle books for about 6 months now and have 7 titles available. I started with a PLR book and was quickly shot down by Amazon. Since then I have written all of the books myself and they are completely new and unique and all part of a “series” (mistake number 3). Amazon has accepted all of them and they are selling. I agree with your three “mistakes”. However, I have been using Google to find the keywords to associate with the book (tags). I will rethink that and find a way to use Amazon to get better results. My books are in a niche that I enjoy writing about, but is not that popular in Amazon. I need a way to expand my writing into more popular areas so that I can sell more books. I would love to get an advance copy of your new course and would be happy to give you feedback. Hopefully, I can improve my sales and help you at the same time.
I meant to say who can blame Amazon for wanting quality content, on that last post of mine. Too early, and not enough coffee-lol!
Cindi
I like the way you think outside the box James – for example the way you saw that Google keyword search is for information but Amazon stats were more appropriate for finding subject niches for books.
Your research also seems to be very thorough – covers all the bases. I’m also impressed by the way your doing several books around the same niche. That seems to make sense.
I listened to the 2 hour webinar the other night re kindle writing and marketing. Very impressed, but i’m presently committed to writing a book for a very popular subject but i think i can offer something a little different in that market. The book is taking me months though. All original text and i’m also doing cartoons and a touch of humour to a subject that is often treated with great seriousness.
If it wasn’t for that i’d be probably trying faster turn around subjects, as is recommended in the webinar, but i’ve put too much work into this present book to stop now, so wish me luck. I know marketing is seriously important no matter how good a book may be.
Always interested in what you have to say – cheers, kevin
Hi James.
I also got into Kindle publishing using your Ultimate PLR Collection a little too late, and unfortunately all of my hard efforts went down the drain as my books were slapped right and left.
I’m really looking forward to something new and exciting, since I firmly believe in Kindle publishing as a great way to earn a passive income. I can’t wait for your new course to come out!
Hi James.
I also got into Kindle publishing using your previous methods a little too late, and unfortunately all of my hard efforts went down the drain as my books were slapped right and left.
I’m really looking forward to something new and exciting, since I firmly believe in Kindle publishing as a great way to earn a passive income. I can’t wait for your new course to come out!
Your new course sounds great! I just published my first ebook and your Ultimate PLR Article Collection I got a long time ago was quite useful for additional material and ideas. I am hoping to learn how to do well in this market. Working from home is my only option (disability), so as you and your friend John say, I really need to learn how to crush it!
Thanks for the great post. I am really eager to hear about your new research techniques for finding good markets/subjects for books!
I plan on going after Kindle hard this year too, and all my research just confirms what you are saying in this post James. Forget about using the techniques that work for search engines, and focus on what readers want to see. Amazon does tell us exactly what that is, if we do a little digging!
Going deep into a single market, linking your books together so they can push sales to each other–now that’s smart. Forget the shotgun approach so many marketers are taking, as you alluded to in this post.
Work hard and smart and reap the rewards for months and years to come.
Thanks for the great post, James, and looking forward to the course when it comes out!
Cheers,
Norma
James – I have been interested in Kindle for some time. I know this is something I can truly do. After reading everything I can get my hands on regarding selling Kindle eBooks and having purchased a course from John Rhodes through your recommendation, I am ready to embark on a new IM venture. I have faithfully read and devoured everything you have had to offer up to now, and your most recent addition will just add to my base of knowledge. Thanks for all your hard work. I’m ready to do this!
I’ve been receiving your Emails for some time but this one jumped out at me immediately as I have just begun my Ebook experience.
This article was so very helpful and I will use the suggestions right away.
I’m looking forward to your Kindle Triangulation Course and would love to have an advanced copy.
Thank you for these great tips. I have been studying the Kindle,Nook, iphone market for a few weeks and I am in the process of trying to get content together for my first e-book.
There is so much conflicting info out there its amazing.
I would love to get an advanced copy of your Kindle Triangulation Course,I can see you have the information that will help me succeed in Kindle publishing. I look forward to your course.
In late 2008 I published some PLR ebooks on the Kindle platform and then played the “sit and forget” game, making between $100 to $300 each month until Amazon decided to clean up their inventory and remove the PLR ebooks. I have since been reviewing many methods of “getting back into the game”, knowing that there were gains to be made much bigger than I had been doing. I watched your recent rebroadcast of the webinar with Jay Boyer and John S Rhodes, which sparked my interest even more.
I would be honored to be lucky enough to receive a review copy of your Kindle Triangulation Course. It sounds like just the thing I need to add to my arsenal of Kindle Publishing education material and may just be the one that pushes me from the “I gotta do that” mode to the “I did that” position.
With deep regards,
Jim
The one thing most Internet marketers fail to do, at least often enough is to test. Jim Straw once said and in response to a question about knowing when you have a good sales letter or ad, “You have test…test…test…and test again. Then and only then will you know if your marketing is working”. Research is something everyone needs to do if they are going be successful. Unfortunately it is the time factor. Maybe even the lazy factor. It takes work and patience and plenty of time. Good job James.
Digital publishing/ebooks – the Kindle in particular – demand radical new thinking and the development of strategies far removed from the practices and business models that have made print publishing such an unsatisfactory industry in so many respects.
As a professional author and journalist for over 50 years, I welcome your emphasis on quality of content and the need for well-researched new strategies. Your approach is far more credible than the many misleading sales pitches claiming that ebooks enable anyone to make quick profits with very little effort or skill.
In particular, the idea that cobbling together PLR articles into ebooks is a development that all of us in this business should condemn and Amazon did well to block this practice in an effort to preserve the credibity of the type of worthwhile Kindle ebooks that you are advocating.
As the author of the first trade book on Paperless Publishing I have been, like you, a pioneer in this business which at long last is breaking the stranglehold that print publishers have put on books and those who writer and read them for centuries.
So good luck in your efforts and I would appreciate a review copy of your new course for the new edition – digital Kindle format, of course – of my Paperless Publishing.

Thank you James for telling us like it is. There are so many marketers out there telling us different things that sometimes it is very hard to tell the correct approach to take. I’ve followed the advise of a very well know marketer and it was totally the wrong thing to do. I was given a chance to rewrite and submit again – thank havens. But, it would of been better to do it correctly the first time.
Your training and tips are always helpful. You explain what to, how to do it and why we should do it. And you aren’t afraid to say you made a mistake and share the mistake with us. I learned so much just reading this post.
Very exciting James! I’ve been waiting for your new system you’ve been working on.
I too would be much further along in my Kindle sales if I would have been smarter about choosing niche topics. That is the direction I am now striving to implement. I call it theme marketing. Pick a topic that proves to be profitable and then write 3-5 books based on that theme all under the same real or pen name, showing yourself as an expert in that niche.
This is a much smarter way to utilize Kindle as your business model and it’s a win-win situation. You make good money with Kindle and they promote your book(s) for you. Plus! You don’t have to worry about Amazon blocking your account or removing your books. Now, that is peace of mind!
I would LOVE to have a review copy of your Triangulation Course! You are the reason I got into Kindle publishing in the first place in 2008. I love your teaching style. I too grimace when I think about how much further along I could be if I only had known more about proper Amazon research. Well…..Here’s to a VERY profitable 2012 working the right way after I digest your new course!
I have read all the comments posted so far.. Seems like a lot of people know about ebooks..This is new to me, but sounds very interesting.. I have been selling on ebay and amazon for the past few years.. I have been looking for that 1 thing I could sell without being on the computer everyday for hours.. I am a single mom and ebay and amazon has really helped me pay the bills.. Now it’s time to work smarter.. With my son now in college I have more time to invest in other online avenues.. I have been reading everything Jim Cockrum and Ina Steiner puts online.. And now you.. I look forward to your course and hope to start with ebooks on Kindle ASAP.. I have a few ideas brewing and looking thru my notes I think I have enough for at least 2 ebooks already.. This article has helped me to see ebooks is my future.. Thanks so much for all your hard work and help so far.. Looking forward to your Kindle Triangulation Course and would love to have an advanced copy!!
Regards,
Gabriela
I have been following you for a couple of years now. I guess I am a slow learner. I bought Micro Niche Finder, and love it. I truly want to earn a living from Internet Marketing. I have been trying my hand at writing and have published a few ebooks. I have earned a few dollars from them; it is exciting. Grandfather Clocks for Home is my oldest website, and I have made a few sales over the years. However, my writing is from my experiences as a licensed counselor in the state of Illinois. I want dearly to help parents that usually get very poor advice and direction. I also dearly want to earn a living through Internet Marketing. I was unexpectedly disabled at the end of 2008. I am self-directed and self-motivating, but I need some direction myself now. Your recent emails and blog articles have spiced up my interest in pursuing Internet Mktg more avidly again. THX for your continued business and professional growth; it has been inspiring and fun to watch. Perhaps it will rub off on me. Nan
Who would’ve thought? Thumbs down using Google’s Keyword Tool? And include Broad along with Long-Tail Keywords?
Shifting gears mid-stream while currently creating Kindle e-books is a bit of a jolt. Nevertheless, newly-discovered sound ideas is worthy of my close attention … whatever they might be.
Bring it on, James!
) And thanks…
Thanks James for these Great Tips I am researching Kindle now i Know you New Course will be the Answer to help get my first book done. Thank You
Thank you for the information regarding kindle ebooks. I have been scratching my brain for a couple of years now trying to figure out how to get some sales. I have had a few but not enough to buy a coffee.
I would be very interested in obtaining a copy of your new triangulation course. Like all the other information you provide us I am sure that it will be a great benefit to this frustrated ebook creator.
Maybe equipped with this tool I will be able to finally make some money.
James you are the man when it comes to Kindle. I have 21 books on Kindle using your advice. However, as you know, Amazon’s parameters have changed, so I am looking for new ways to do research and find content. Once more, i’m looking to you.
So here’s hoping I get a review copy. I’ll definitely take action as I have in the past.
As a newbie to the idea of selling books on Kindle, this post was a real eye opener. I have started to research niches and have been using the same techniques I use for websites but no longer.
Thanks for explaining Amazon rankings and how you use it to find suitable niches for your ebooks. This gem alone makes reading your post worth while.
I would love to have a review copy of your new course to get ahead of the pack for Kindle publishing. I have a 2012 goal to publish on the Kindle and to earn money from my endeavours.
Any spelling mistakes are due to being poor at spelling so please excuse them!
You are like a dynamo, not just whizzing around fruitlessly but actually getting results.
About 20 years ago, in my youth, I approached the local business enterprise office with my idea of selling ebooks. They laughed at me and said they had never heard of it and wasn’t a proper business and therefore would not be able to help me.
Being naive I believed them, did nothing and returned to my 9-5.
Suffice to say don’t listen to what anyone tells you if you truly believe in what you are doing.
I could have been Amazon:)
Great tips to follow from James if you want to make kindle publishing your moneymaker in 2012.
Great advice with regards to going deep in a niche with several books done at once or stacking as it is known as. It is a great time saver when it comes to niche research for several books in a series, instead of doing one ebook, then having to start your research from scratch with a new niche. It also has another benefit in the form of reader/buyer loyalty. If a buyer likes your book, they are more likely to buy all your books in that series.
You can then link to each book in the series in each book for the reader to buy the rest of the series if they like your book. As Amazon is getting more strict with the quality I believe going forward they will ban links inside books to outside websites, but I cannot see them ever slapping a book that simply has links to other books in the series that are sold on kindle ! (:
Thanks again James for the great advice.
Cheers,
Paul
Hi James,
I’ve been publishing on Kindle for awhile now, being introduced to it by you and Rebecca Cooper back in 2008. Like a number of folks, I put up some PLR, and did make some sales. Then, of course, I got slapped big time. Luckily, I had added some of my own content, so the well didn’t completely dry up. I’m doing better on Barnes and Noble, but still haven’t been very good at promotion.
I’m glad to see you tell folks Google Keywords is not the place to go for ideas. I’ve seen a big ticket Kindle course offered that seems to teach people to use Google, and that, more than the high price, turned me off from buying it.
I tend to buy most of the reasonably priced information products about Kindle and get a new idea here and there. Having purchased a number of your products, I know your new course will be full of good information. I’m especially interested in your niche research methods. Amazon research can be a bit of a puzzle to figure out sometimes!
Best,
Judi
I would love to get into kindle and Amazon publishing. I attended Keith Daughty’s webinar where his daughter published a physical book on Amazon using PLR and bought his product.
I’ll be honest, I have a hard time with the concept of using PLR, public domain or other ‘easy’ content for this. I want to be in this for the long haul, yet, I’m not really a content creator (writer)
I’ve been following you for a while and a couple of webinars on publishing, but I seem to come to a snag at the content section. That last webinar, I almost bought, (glad I didn’t) but because you were adding 95 or so manuscripts I figured, if there were only that many then at some point in time Amazon would finally get wise to all the low quality and duplicate content in their catalog and start surgically removing authors with a machete. I don’t want in on that. I would like to understand your new strategy and how you have solved the content problem, so I can best decide how to get in this for the long haul.
Hey James,
I love all of your products and training. The books that I have put up on the Kindle are all from the training that you taught me in early 2011. Hence I will need to make some changes too to the way that I research and manage my ebooks.
Hence I would love to receive a review copy of your new Kindle Triangulation Course that you are shortly releasing.
I hope you choose me and that it can assist in increasing my sales from 3-7 a month to hundreds!
Many blessings,
Leanne
Hey James,
Thank you for sharing this invaluable information with us in this ever-changing world of internet marketing. I really appreciate your honesty in revealing these potential roadblocks to our success in the Kindle Marketplace.
Not everyone is so upfront and helpful to beginners.
You always seem to be on the cutting edge of things when it comes to internet marketing and especially in the Kindle book publishing field. With the rules and standards constantly changing, it is a great relief to know that there is someone who is willing to keep us up-to-date.
I purchased your course on Kindle book publishing and am looking to further my education in this field, so I can stay up-to-date and assure myself success publishing e-books through Amazon and other publishers.
I will be looking for the release of your Kindle Triangulation Course, so I can incorporate your new strategy into my approach for increased sales and profit.
Thanks again and God bless you,
Garry
James,
Hey Great article. Some very valid tips for Kindle publishing.
The days are over for putting out rehashed junk of no value. We are seeing these types of sites and content getting slapped everywhere. And for good reason.
Just look @ all the sites on Google with the so called panda updates and most recently the Kindle Market place slaps.
I say focus on quality content and provide quality in everything you do and the rewards will follow.
It does takes a little more effort, but in the long run you will have something that sticks. And something you would be glad to associate your name with.
Gone are the days of the quick hit, throw some junk up and hopefully something will stick.I know we all would like to hope that all these ” push button solutions will work”, but the truth is the same as it always has been.
Anything worth while is going to take a little work.
When I was younger I always heard ” boy, if you would spend just as much time actually doing it correctly as you do in trying to figure out ways to get around it, then life would suddenly become a lot easier for you”
aaah life’s little lessons.(took me a long time to learn them lol.) lot’s more to learn
Anyway just my two cents worth.
James
Hi
and thanks for the tip on Google keyword research. I have had my few books on kindle slapped due to content – fair enough they were just rehashes of PLRs . Now I am a good boy and will give real content ( damn! I have to do some work).
Like the cutout from the kindle best sellers – this is news to me and will use this strategy in finding Kindle niches. The whole Kindle thing is fresh air after the Google monster and its new rule a day approach. This year will be a Kindle year. Thanks again for the tips
Lennie
I have been using Kindle for some time now and all of a sudden, there seems to be a rash of courses on the topic. One course I looked at was $997 which made me chuckle a little as the information could have been found for free online.
James, having been a subscriber of yours for a long time I know your product will be quality and what I like about the information here is that it’s new and not rehashed. Looking forward to seeing the new course.
Hi James,
Glad I got to meet you last summer at the Practical Profits seminar. I also have the Ultimate PLR Collection, along with a whole bunch of your other programs. Remember? I showed you the list.
I fully intend to add Micro Niche Finder to that collection!
I’m very much interested in Kindle Publishing but now am aware of the “Amazon slap” of rehashed content from PLR. My question: Just how does Amazon “know” that the material is from PLR? What if the PLR was rewritten or “spun”?
Now I’m happy to hear that you’ll be coming out with your new course, “Kindle Triangulation.” Wow! What a word! I actually looked up the definition, but obviously it has different meanings like for politics, surveying, geometry, etc.
From what I can gather, it’s taking different parts and putting them altogether. You are a master at that!
I look forward to your new course and naturally would appreciate your giving me the opportunity to review it.
Thanks,
Cathy
PS Cool Captcha!
James,
You are at the top of my list when it comes to first class quality research, cutting edge information and excellent prices and products.
Kindle is my area of focus for 2012, and your insights are very important to me. The information in your blog is a perfect example of how you always give freely of advice that can help others save valuable time and money. I’m interested in drilling deep into just a couple of niches.
Can’t wait to check out your Kindle Triangulation Course. Thanks for all you do!
Tracy
Very interesting insights James. I am not as yet a publisher on kindle but like many I have noticed it is being pushed hard. I was always confused as to why many suggested google rather than amazon for keyword ideas. It seemed a bit like being taught how to improve your golf by playing cricket. So I am pleased your testing has demonstrated that amazon is the best source of inspiration.
Recognising that ebooks are not set and forget makes sense. Many print books are updated and new editions brought out regularly so the same attitude must apply to electronic versions. It keeps them up to date and relevant.
There is no doubt that kindle has come of age and is the future. When I think of the amount of writing I do for my sites channeling that into ebooks for a regular income is a better idea.
As I concentrate on the health niche I am hoping kindle will be a profitable area to move into so I look forward to your course to help me get published ASAP.
Whenever I do research for Kindle ebooks, I don’t ever target long-tail keywords anyway. As you said, you can get your book ranked really high if you just go with broad keywords. I’ve actually had an ebook (and still do) that was #2 in its category and it made about 30 or so sales every 6 weeks. Another book managed to get 90 or so sales in that same period. So, your success really varies according to the demand and the niche. But success is success and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Thank you James. This information is so helpful, and you are kind to share it. Some people like blogging, some people like blog curation, and some people like Kindle publishing. And for this, you are obviously right on top. Thank you for taking the time to do this research and sharing it with everyone.
I am going to be focusing on Kindle this year, creating books in a theme and then getting them out there. It makes so much sense that searching for a niche for a kindle book would have a different technique than putting up webpages. I appreciate your formula, and all the research you did to discover it.
I like the idea of going deep into a single market, and then linking your books together so they can encourage sales for the others. Very smart! It’s like linking websites in the linkwheel approach.
I would love to have a copy of your new class, and looking forward to the course when it comes out!
Bless you –
Elyn
Thanks for your insights, James! I just recently caught on to the fact that I need broad search terms for Kindle. But I did not know the info you just shared about the Sales Rank. I’ve just started working on an ebook for Kindle, and before I go any further, I’ll use your tips to research – making sure I’m not putting time and effort into a niche that isn’t “ripe for pickin’.”
I appreciate your products. They are always high quality and practical!
Karen
James
Great points to be aware of with Kindle. Your information is always excellent value and factual. To be treated like Gold!
I look forward to hearing more about your new Kindle Triangulation course.
Regards
Sara
Hey, i read your post.I already knew that from course i bought yesterday….
hope you can add more valuable info and something new in your
course.
James,
As a multiple subscriber to MNF and a follower of your blogs and weekly seminars…It is extremely enlightening to consistently see how intent you are in making others better.
Your weekly $7 software is a great example of this as is this report on Kindle and how to make oneself into a better publisher. I chose not to purchase John Rhodes’ Kindle course and now I know why……you were going to do one and it would be forthright and direct as are all of your programs. I look forward to receiving my review copy and to further educating myself. I am hopeful that, with a modicum of success in 2012 that I will begin my “giving back” program as you have done so successfully.
Thanks for the opportunity…I look forward to discussing your Triangulation Course with you, directly.
Great post and good timing for me. I am in the process of writing my first book. I have wanted to be a published author most of my life, but haven’t found the time until now to write a whole book…
I had purchases a bunch of systems that suggested that I could slap together a bunch of crap and make easy money for years. But I just couldn’t follow through on the systems laid out because it didn’t seem right. I want to author books that I would be proud to put my own name on.
I appreciate the clarity of this post: the clear, concise, specifics that I can act on–or, stop acting on…
I appreciate the suggestion that we can make money and produce something worthwhile. You didn’t quite say that, but I inferred such a message from the final point.
I’d appreciate a review copy because I should be ready to publish my first manuscript within a couple of weeks. I’d like to see if I’m on track according to your product. It seems that you are more in alignment with my belief system than some of the other people I have purchased programs from.
Thank you, Kim
Hi James,
As usual, you have overdelivered on this article. What great tips. I have been excited about publishing on Kindle for a while and I read and buy just about everything that you offer or recommend. You have been very generous with some bonuses recently, also. I have published 2 books on Create Space (no sales yet) and published 2 on Kindle but had those removed for the same reasons as I lot of people who have commented here. The “set and forget without rewriting the content” method just doesn’t work. I am now working with a combination of PLR, public domain information on some evergreen niches, which mixes the old with the new. But, your suggestions about finding what niches sell is very informative and refreshing and has “rekindled” my interest to keep going.
I would love to review your Triangulation Course.
Best regards and thanks again,
Were the books accepted by Create Space identical to the books regected by Kindle; I have a book just accepted by Create Space and getting ready to format it for Kindle.
James:
I’ve been following you for at least a year. Most of the marketers I’ve signed up for over the years, I’ve ditched – unsubscribed. But, you’re one of a handful who has consistently provided value, so I’ve stuck around. And now, you’ve hit on a subject very close to my interests and, as usual, you’ve made a succinct, to the point post. You’ve outlined the problem and given some solutions, and just enough “tease” to make me want to know more.
I trust you, James. So, I’ll be looking closely at what you have to say about selling books on Amazon. Currently, I sell about uh…well, let’s just say “several”, books a day. If I can run those numbers up to 20 or 30, I’m happy. More than that, I’d be dumbfounded. (And I’ll nominate you for President!)
Thanks.
Voyle
I’m preparing to outsource some of my content research and development. Of course, I’ll have to refine and add my voice to the product before it’s completely ready to fly. In addition to using Amazon’s sales rank, you can use the type-ahead function where Amazon autofills (in a drop down list) some of the most commonly searched terms starting with your initial character string…Using all the techniques in combination will allow you to find highly profitable and commonly searched niches.
Totally looking forward to seeing your new strategies!!
Hope I get one of the advance review copies because I don’t know how long I’ll be able to wait – I’m too excited. I might spontaneously combust before Kindly Triangulation is officially launched.
oh…no-o-o-o-o-o…..
Thanks!!!
Make it Great (Of course you will)
Theresa
Hi, James:
Based on your training, I wrote a few Kindle books last year from PLR. We now know that it is a no-no to do that, but fortunately I’ve only had 3 of my books dumped by Amazon, while the other 40+ are percolating along just fine. I did add quite a bit of my own content, so maybe that’s why they are still live.
At this point, I’m bringing in about $500/month from the books, but (with the New Year) like you I have decided to hit it hard this year with Kindle – and possibly CreateSpace versions as well.
I’ve gone through the “lessons learned” phase of Kindle (yes, I spent $997 on THAT course) and are now ready to do it right and do it strong.
I quite literally would not have gotten this started without your help, so thanks!
Blue skies,
Kelly
James…
I’m really looking forward to adding Kindle and other eBook publishing sites as another revenue source!
Thanks for your insight and sharing your knowledge.
I believe that this is going to be a Great YEAR !
Burt
Hi James,
This is such an interesting post & brings up some great tips. I have decided to try my hand at kindle for this year & just recently got Jay & John’s course, so I am learning a lot, which makes me think about your point about using the keyword tool
So I will say that I am very curious about your new course coming out.
There is starting to be tons of stuff about the kindle publishing lately, but I have been following you & your products for years & know that you are the real deal & am looking forward to see what your course says about it so that I can implement what I learn.
thanks for keeping us in the loop!
Hi James! Man, this post is pure gold! I’m going to print it off in case you decide to take it down later and hide it from everyone.
I’m glad you mentioned the part about Google search, because I’ve frequently tried out keyword phrases I found on Google that are supposed to have a lot of searches, and when I start to type the phrase in Amazon, Amazon starts to auto fill and recommend something ELSE with that keyword in it it – sometimes what Google says doesn’t get as much traffic.
When you mention taking a profitable topic and then making more products in that same topic, are you talking about using long tail keywords for the new product? Or doing a series? Or?
For instance, if “fishing tips” worked well, would you do something like “fishing tips: another 10 tips to catch more fish?” Or would you long tail it with “fishing tips for carp fishing?”
Or do you mean going back in to the same market with a pen name so that you create the appearance of competition, but each of the products are all actually unique ebooks from you?
Thanks again for the post! I really appreciate the timing of this, because I’m working on a new ebook for Kindle and Nook that I’m shooting to have finished this week, and I’m just starting it tonight. I already did the keyword research, but now I’m going to RE-DO it again before I start the book.
Thanks!
Jim Knippenberg
Kia ora James,
This is valuable information, and I appreciate you sharing it.
Thank you for the pep talk! I have been working with rewrites on your PLR for a while, and now understand that I should be adding even more of my own content — as I am experienced in both proofreading and editing (which I love) you have opened up some new neural circuits which have me itching to get going again. I will be looking with eyes which will use a different focus as I proceed.
I have actually been using Amazon to search for topics, so your endorsement of this strategy is a thumbs up that I am on the right track. Having been made unemployed after 21 years with my company, I am now faced with earning a living in a new arena. At 74, I am hopeful that my skills will allow me to enter the world of Kindle Profits and prove to myself that, although I have no real experience on the internet, I am able to be productive with the one area in which I have some background knowledge.
Your new course sounds fascinating and, like everyone else, I would very much appreciate the opportunity to be a reviewer.
Thanks, James!
James,
I have been following you for quite a while. You were the one that me and my wife interested in publishing for the Kindle. We decided to put together some content and publish a few books. You can not imagine how surprised we were when my wife said we sold our 1st one. Finally something that we did, that we created that actually made a profit. To be honest the selling the Kindle books was the only profit we made in 2011. So we decided that we would dedicate 100% of our energies into working strictly the Kindle Publishing Program. With your insights to niche research and marketing we feel that you could guide us and help us knock it out of the park in 2012. Were talking a nice 4 digit income. We would love to have a review copy of your Kindle Triangulation Course. With the newly discovered information that you provide and your experience we feel like we couldn’t miss.
We look forward to the next webinar where we always learn something. Thank you for considering us and please keep providing us with great Kindle information.
Phillip & Shelia
Hi James.
Thank you for your thoughts on Kindle publishing. It is certainly one of the up-and-coming business models. You seem to have workedhard and used your imagination on the subject.
To be honest, I thought marketing a Kindle ebook could be done in a similar way to selling a PDF file on the Internet. But the idea of using broad keywords is appealing. It seems easier.
I like the idea of going deep into a niche rather than just submitting one ebook and forgetting about it. Some people tend to take a while to learn a subject but then tend to learn it well.
You seem to be the one to help people share their valuable knowledge through Kindle. I look forward to your release of Kindle Triangulation.
Best regards,
Frank
It was a somewhat dark and semi-stormy night. Little Richard sat pounding away at his keyboard. The keystrokes were a little heavier this evening and a faint muttering could be heard in between the staccato placement of each letter on the screen. “This PLR sucks almost as much as this red velvet cake yogurt,” he growled, “New Year’s resolutions suck too, I’m done tryin’ to bring sexy back, one cheesesteak isn’t gonna’ kill me, especially since I gotta’ rewrite this whole d*mned thing.” He starts to reach for his keys and something pulls him back to the keyboard, his right hand goes for the mouse and he opens his email. “Are these Mistakes killing your Kindle profits,” he reads aloud, “this better be some good sh*t James freakin’ Kindle Jones.” He sits half turned away from the monitor and starts to read the first few sentences. He continues to read and his body language changes as he turns to face the monitor while reading the part about long tail keywords. His reading quickens, he scrolls down, reading, scrolling, reading, scrolling. “Where the h*ll is the d*mned BUY button,” he whines, “…released later this month?,” he shouts, “WTF, I’m going to get a d*mned cheesesteak.”
In closing, Mr. James “build some anticipation” Jones, even though this comment kicks *ss, I don’t want your d*mned free, supersonic, kick*ss, ninja review copy of Kindle Triangulation. I just want you to reimburse me for the copay on my Lipitor and the dry cleaning for this big ass cheesesteak stain on my throwback Joe Greene jersey.
I would say for Kindle books’ quality, quality, quality. I have recently unpublished all my ebooks from kindle with low quality, I have kept only few that was written with care and in depth research. I just changed their titles and increased my sales exponentially for the month of December and the first week of January.
James, thank you for the great tips. I’m VERY interested in learning to make Kindle books and make a lasting residual income and in order to do that I need to learn the right way. From beginning to end. Ive been looking at a lot of courses out there and they seem to be out dated or have pieces missing. If your course has all the pieces to making Kindle books I would love the privilege of a review copy. One way or another I will learn how to do this. You have a good reputation of being a good teacher.
James,
I have been interested in Kindle Marketing for some time now, having watched a webinar of yours some time back. However, I have been reticent to give it a go, as I find content creation to be a major headache, as I am sure many others do as well.
I would really love to see what you have to offer in this regard in your new product. I have bought many of your other products, including MNF, for a number of years and I would love to find out more about Kindle marketing, as I feel that it is the way of the future and will only grow as time passes.
I look forward to hearing more from you on this subject.
Kind regards,
Barry
You haven’t steered me wrong yet.
James:
You and I spoke on December 7, 2011 about some of the very points you’re making in the post. As we compared notes and chatted it seemed we were both doing some of the very same type of testing and research. I’m glad to see you are putting your results together for a course.
Like you I’ve found the most significant increase in my Kindle sales to start once I stopped applying the niche research techniques I use for building niche websites. Most importantly, forgetting what I learned about long-tail keyword research. Yes, the results are much better on Kindle with broad keywords.
I have also gone back through most of my Kindle books that had “stalled” sales and reworked my listings only to see sales turn start increasing almost immediately. You’re definitely on the right track advising against a “set and forget” attitude.
Again, I’m very glad to see you’re putting the results of your research into Kindle Triangulation. I look forward to it’s launch. Even though we’ve both been testing in some of the same areas, I have no doubt I’ll learn something new to grow my business.
I would also be interested in hearing whether you’ve applied any of your research to PubIt for Nook publishing. It seems to me that the techniques resulting in increased sales on Kindle are having little to no effect on Nook. Guess I’lll continue research Nook a bit more after reworking everything on Kindle. But I would be interested in your 2 cents on the topic.
Harvey
Thanks for this very informative post. I’ve given up mostly on Internet marketing, simply because I’m seeing the potential of Kindle publishing. I’ve had some small successes and I’m looking to ramp it up this year. This means, James, you’re one of a handful I’m watching out for. And I know I won’t be disappointed.

What a wonderful post you have about the kindle ebooks. I’m looking forward to checking out the Kindle Triangulation. I can’t wait! I set my goal to put up 100 books this year in the kindle so I look forward to receiving all the help I can get.
Thanks,
Momoneymoe
You’re right about all these things James. I’ve been publishing Kindle books for the past six months and have seen the best results in the broadest of niches too. It’s the same old bunch though – weight loss, health, cookery. Fiction is difficult.
Lots of Kindle ‘experts’ recommend outsourcing your writing then doing a quick edit before publishing. In my experience this is a big mistake. You’ll spend far more time trying to locate a suitable writer, getting them to understand what you want, messing about with emails going back and forth and then finally correcting and editing the result than if you wrote it yourself. If you get your head down you can knock out a twenty page e-book in about a day and a half. It’s a bit of a slog but it’s worth it when the royalties start (and keep) coming in.
That’s just my two cents worth…
John
Hi James,
2 comments and a question.
1/ Just to add; the Sellers Rank actually roughly compares a book’s total sales relatively to other books at a particular point in time. It’s updated regularly.
2/ Keyword targeting – may be broad keywords also work because book readers generally search broadly within a niche (e.g. any book on the subject will do fine) unless searching for a specific book title.
3/ “Set and forget” – this was not clear. Is it that one is not sure what will sell and what won’t, so adopt approach to put in as many as possible or is it that Amazon does its own quality checks and may eliminates some of the books from sale?
Cheers!
Paul
Hi John
I have always counted on you to keep abreast of the latest internet marketing challenges and to come up with creative solutions as they are happening. This is one of the reasons I stay on your list. You’ve done it again!
I would be delighted with a review copy of your new Kindle Triangulation Course. I’m confident this will be exactly the info I need to continue to fulfill my dream of becoming a published author.
Connie
Hi James,
I became a Kindle publisher after visiting your first webinar on this subject. It was the beginning and I started to use your system with PLR articles. It works at the beginning and I started to earn some money with my Kindle e-books. Than I received warning from Amazon about duplicated content and few my e-books were blocked. I still have few on Amazon but I realized that I need to change my strategy for new publishing. What you said now should change the approach to Kindle publishing for many people who want to build good income from this Internet business including myself. I am looking forward for your Kindle Triangulation Course because I know from my previous experience with your products it will be great.
Thank you for helping us,
Svetoslav
James,
As usual, you hit the nail on the head. I have been fortunate to work on Kindle projects directly with you and you are miles ahead of these so called Kindle Gurus who apply Google SEO practices to the Kindle Market place. Your post is insightful and your readers better listen or get left behind. There is a difference between motion and productivity and most Internet marketers think long tail keyword phrases and volume as you mentioned. That needs to change if they want to profit with Kindle.
All the best,
Vito
Hi James!
I immediately opened the link as I do everytime I get an email from you (I watch every webinar replay!).
Thanks to you I started selling on Kindle and I must say, it´s been an awesome (and lucrtive) journey! I have a team of people creating good quality ebooks that sell like crazy.
Some of them are created with the Ultimate PLR Article Collection software… but they are not English books
I also have found some tricks and techniques to sell more, but still testing. I would love to see what the Kindle Triangulation Course is all about!
Thanks you so much for all you are doing and I hope the best for you and your business!
Use a clear title that actually tells the browser what they are getting, and then publish QUALITY content. Never publish anything that you wouldn#’t be happy to buy yourself.
Nice tips James! I agree, Kindle publishing is a whole new ballgame. The rules for e-publishing on the Kindle platform have changed significantly, and I can’t wait to see what you have in store in your upcoming Kindle Triangulation course. Keep up the good work!
Hi James,
Many thanks for your informative post. I have certainly been guilty of #3 – set and forget – in the past. I currently have just under 30 titles published for the Kindle, but have yet to hit “the big time”.
I keep up with most things published concerning the Kindle, but can only afford the lower priced items. I wanted to buy “Tablet Cash Machines” but $497 was completely outside of my budget. I can only hope that your new course will be more reasonably priced as I would love to be able to afford it and learn from your experience.
Take care,
Dave
When I first saw your original Kindle webinar I thought that it was too good to be true but having trusted you for some time now, I decided to give it a go. Since that day, before being slapped by Kindle twice, I’ve sold 100′s of ebooks and am still doing pretty well. For the last few months however, I’ve not added any new ones in fear of having my account closed. I would genuinely welcome some direction and be very grateful if I was fortunate enough to receive a review copy to help me make my first million bucks!
That’s the thing that many information providers seem to neglect. If users have a problem, providers supply a solution to that user and then leave it at that without ever hearing from that user again. Kindle eBook marketing should be like email marketing – provide value by offering a solution to a problem and then marketing a similar solution to a different problem. The user will appreciate because you helped them with a previous problem.
If you have a problem with your car and you go to a garage to solve that problem, chances are that you’ll go back to the same garage to solve a different problem. The first time may be to replace a water pump, the next time may be to change brake pads, etc.
This is the way to approach all niche markets and James hit it on the nose.
I’ve been following James for over 3 years now, as always giving me and others prime information. Most all of my software and downloads have been from James. From the micro niche finder to the plr articles and many more. I have been publishing ebooks for over a year now and it seems everybody now days are talking and selling things about kindle books, beware though just follow James he hasn’t steered my wrong yet. Can’t wait for the Kindle Triangulation to come out, and of course I’m sure there will be a very interesting webinar along side of it.
Thanks James for my success and others.
John Rau
one thing you didn’t mention (and something that i believe your “good friend/partner in JV, J.S. Rhodes advocates) is the use of PLR.
can’t speak for your material, not having seen it, but the current wisdom (not just jonny andrews) seems to be that plr(heavily re-written or not) is the kindle equivalent of profile links with xrumer.
what say you triple J?
Thanks for the great info James!
I only have two books on Kindle at this time and I checked your <25,000 sales rank strategy and discovered one is in a niche with good sales rank and one is not. Not surprisingly the one that has a niche sales rank of <25,000 is my best seller of the two! Your other two strategies make wonderful sense as well. I too have been guilty of the "set it and forget it" mindset but have tried to use long tail keywords in my title and description (I assume this is what you are talking about).
Can't wait for your new course! Can you please give us a hint as to when your new course will come available?
Thanks for a great post, James! I plan to rock Kindle myself this year. In the past, I’ve mostly done publishing on Kindle for other people. ‘Bout time for me.
I think the most important point you make in your post is that you have to continually explore and test new strategies and information.
That is so true about any business model. While there are always going to be some things that are “evergreen” there are also always going to be new tools, technology, and methods that a person should stay on top of, if they want to stay at the top of the game.
I love getting new Kindle emails from you, because I know that I’m probably going to pick up some new nugget of information.
Teresa
Thank you for the 3 common mistakes that can decrease your kindle sales. I have found that the knidle book can have too many pages. I am now doing different volumes for a specific subject. I thank you for your informaiton. I would be interested in getting an advanced copy.
I plan to put out several e-books this year. I added 5 this year already and plan to do several more in January.
I think I’ll take a stab at this…For starters, once this kindle thing blew up everyone approached it as a get rich quick scheme, which means quality totally went out the window with the introduction of so many people and newbies. The PLR might have been fine to use if people were a little bit more conscious of what the buyer was getting, but it became over saturated and the buyers weren’t happy with purchasing/reading content that people didn’t even bother glancing over. I’d be pretty pissed too if I paid a penny of my money on a purchase that I had a certain expectation for, and received something sub par instead.
So the tables have turned and it is because of the buyers. So its NOW ALL about the buyers…how many people have actually had an issue with something and said hmmm… Im going to go buy a book on my kindle about my problem vs. searching for the answer to the problem in google, ehow, yahoo answers, etc. This is why I think the google keyword tool inflates the numbers, because factored into those numbers are also people that don’t want to purchase a WHOLE book about their problem.
I’m pretty sure people buy a kindle book because they want to own something they can go to and reference again and again because it is good quality information. Same reason you would start a physical book library of your own. Its like something you do in your leisure. Just watch the kindle commercials. The same way Amazon sells the kindle, you should sell the books. They’ve done the research to know who is in the market to buy a kindle and what their interests are.
James mentions a broad search term. This is what consumers do to find the available options, then from there the products would have to fit my specific needs(speak to me)/ or have social proofing. That’s why that window will be closing once those terms are snatched.
And finally the set it and forget it mentality. Personally if I’m looking at a generic book by a generic author & a branded author with numerous titles in my niche of interested we already know the winner. So its like branding your author so to speak, so you’re always chosen over the other generic books so you become an authority in that niche and you dominate it.
So in a nutshell its still lots of money to be made but now it is only going to be for those that want to work at making it happen and change with the time and not use the lazy approach.
So I’m with James, this will definitely be the year to CRUSH IT if you’re up for a new game plan and not scared of a little work!!!
p.s. James, I got an heads up on how you’re finding the niches, nice!
This is it! This is it!
It all started with you James a few years ago, this I.M. adventure. There is no one I trust in Internet Marketing like I do you, no one. I met you at Practical Profits in Orlando and you are just as genuine, unassuming and insightful as I expected. I’ll stop with the accolades but they are true.
Why do I say this is it? Because writing material for the Kindle and other tablets is something I know I can do and totally love it. I was so disappointed when I couldn’t afford John and Jay’s program. Not only did I want their program, but I REALLY wanted
your bonus (big time). Then I missed out on Jonny Andrew’s WSO.
But maybe things do happen for a reason. If I could learn from
you and your course, I know I would have the best foundation.
I am so excited to hear how strong your recent sales were. Woohoo! I want and need to be a part of this. With Kindle sell-
ing at a million a week in Dec. and with over 40 million iPads
sold, what an opportunity lies before us.
The knowledge that you will share with your Kindle Triangulation
Course will undoubtedly help those that are fortunate enough to access it, to profit greatly.
I’d love to be included. Good luck to everyone on this great adventure.
Hey James,
I am actually pretty happy that you wrote this blog post, I have a goolge alert on “Kindle Publishing”. I always get tons of weird blog posts but when I saw your name I jumped right in to read it. I am really happy you are creating a new product, and either way if I get it for free or not I will try to get my hands on it. There’s so many Kindle products coming out lately that give you mixed messages about how exactly to publish your book on Kindle. I too have gone through the path of researching on Google keywords and publishing short books and then letting them build up momentum without doing anything after I published them. I’m really looking forward to get some useful information that will help me be a better Kindle publisher.
Good luck to all in your publishing adventures,
A.F a
My Got To Guy!!
Hi James!
As always your hardworking, expertise, honesty with high integrity info helps us all and also important you care for your people!
Have been kindleing (is that a word? LOL!) for quite some time and making decent amount of money! I would enjoy receiving your “Kindle Triangulation” before its released.
It’s good to hear that you are excited about helping us create our ebook Publishing Empire in 2012!
Prosperity to you, your family and your business!
Kind regards,
Margaret Hammond
Very insightful post. It opened up my appetite for more.
I really want to get into the kindle ebook publishing business but so far things are a bit confusing. For instance, i’ve just watched a webinar about kindle ebook publishing and one of the points of the webinar was about niche research. The presenter exemplified this by using the Google Research Tool to find niches. Your saying that using the Google Research Tool is wrong. Hence, i get confused and i really need some help clarifying stuff like this. Anyways, thank you for the post and hope to see more like it.
Hi James
I have been buying your info for years and always read your emails (many others I unsubscribe or delete). I have made a little $$ via affiliate marketing but never seem to make enough to cover costs. Ive been thinking about Kindle for a while .. maybe try something I havent tried before – I would love to start off with your course instead of doing things wrong and wasting even more time and money. I look forward to your course coming out or even reviewing a copy for you. Thanks for always sharing your research and information … Julie
Wow, James! Just this week I watched a webinar on Kindle publishing, for a $1000 training product…and he recommends ALL the things you said no longer work:
Google Keyword Tool
Long Tail Keywords
Does No Followup
Can’t wait to get your program. You are hitting the market in stride, and I am ready, as I’ve started writing some kindle books for niche markets!
Will you also be addressing price points, and publishing short reports?
As usual James, you knock it out of the park. I’ve been working with Kindle myself and I would welcome a chance to review the product. I already own Micro Niche and Ultimate PLR and would love to provide a review for your Kindle product. I also am an affiliate for Micro Niche Finder Tool. Thanks!
Always great to read or hear your experience James. Thanks for these tips! After having bought a couple of kindle courses, I am wondering about what else is included in your new course?
Hi James
I have followed you strategies for many years and they are solid.
This one I am already pursuing. Making a few books in the same category is an awesome idea. you could also use these tips too:
1) Make one a short giveaway version with a lead in to the paid for one
2) upsel all of the series in each book
3) sell bundles of the ebooks – 2 for X amount, 3 for X amount etc
4) Take chapter bullet points and make powerpoints, pdfs and videos and distribute to document sharing sites, and video sites with a link back to your Amazon kindle page.
Hope this helps get the creative juices flowing
Looking forward to buying your course when it is published
Kevin
As success with anything is all about triangulation, I am excited by the title of your latest training, “Kindle Triangulation.” Did you know that triangles are the strongest structure known to mankind? Triangles are in all kinds of places where stability and flexibility are required, from the girding of bridges to the hives of honeybees. And now, thanks to you, they are a part of a winning Kindle strategy. I look forward to reviewing your course material that takes the fundamental law of triangulation into consideration.
I was going to print this off, then I saw how many comments you had and this year I want to reduce my carbon foot print.
So I am taking the time to read all your comments, so much for the Big Bang Theory.
Mary
Hi James-
Sometimes it seems that IMers are like teenagers- they (we) all try so hard to conform to being different the same way. Nice to see you breaking out from the crowd again!
What a relief to hear from you about the distinction in use of key words- I have been struggling about this for awhile in trying to get my products up and have been told by the gurus I simply need to use SEO ranked key words. Not easy when my ideas are not ‘the usual suspects’yet have oodles of value to offer once available via Kindle and its ilk.
I am eager to see your new course and finally get the ball rolling. Thanks!
I especially like your comments re: NOT using the Google Keyword Tool. Very helpful.
I am writing a(n) ebook and this info couldn’t be more timely. This is one area where I cannot afford to make mistakes. I look forward to finding out more about your upcoming training course.
So, you’re saying that researching Google will do no good, even if I’m looking to use some long tail keywords as suggestons for titles? Would using these suggestions as a basis for my titles get me more SEO juice with Google? I have talked to some people about this and they claim that Google loves Amazon, so using KW suggestions for titles will get you ranked in Google. This is besides all the traffic that Amazon gives you. Maybe I am wrong on this. What’s your thoughts?
When you described your December month, it felt like I was reading my own personal journal. That is exactly what happened to me! And after almost 3 years of working online, for little or no pay, I was absolutely ecstatic! However, I realize that Kindle is a business OPPORTUNITY and that people must treat it as such, instead of with a mentality of “get rich quick,” or even “gold rush.” What you put into a business is what you’ll get out of it. I look forward to this year because I feel that this opportunity is something that is doable. I haven’t felt that way about anything in quite awhile.
I think there will be a few people this year who will “crush it” but only those who are dedicated to growing a real business!
Good luck in 2012!
I appreciate your blog post. Just this morning I researched what I thought was a great idea for my next book with the
Google Keyword Tool. I tossed that idea. Now I’ll research it again on Amazon.
After following you a long time, I’m waiting for your work on Kindle publishing.
James you are the eBook publishing guru man! I am now going to be calling you the Kindle King! Too much Kindle crap scammers out there, but you cut right to the juicy meat of the subject. Yeah, I want to rank for some sweet Broad Keywords and pump out some nice residual income. Boo-Yah, let me in! I am excited to snatch up a copy of Kindle Triangulation…maybe a review copy wink…wink!
Hey James
I have been very blessed by your ebooks and am looking forward to your new course. These tips are worth big bucks to any one who will do them. I plan one starting asap with them.
I have been wanting to learn about the kindle market and with
the trust I have in you and the ability you have To teach this will be one of my all time best trainings on IM.
Thanks for all
Rick
James,
In a world of increasing competition when things used to take months to evolve it now may be weeks or days. Your tireless research and insight into the ever changing web is a relief for someone like me who is just starting to “get it.” The learning curve is steep but you make it understandable.Keep it up and thanks.
Very nice explanation I have not used Kindle yet but have been thinking about giving it a try So thank you for the advance education I will for sure come back for review.
I am very new at this gig and have a couple of questions if anyone has a bit of time. What happened with the Kindle “slap” and why has Amazon pulled books? I just signed up on the TCM program about 10 days ago and I have put my first book at Kindel and Amazon. Right at the moment the K version is sitting at the #4 spot on the page, which surprised me. Now to make some sales.
Thanks ahead
I have been publishing Kindle books for the past 3 months. I found a good niche and frankly within the niche I found a micro-niche and sales this month for the micro-niche are 20 to 1 to the regular more broad niche. My plan is to continue to concentrate on the one that is most successful. Rather than looking for new markets (I will also look at them) but my concentration of effort will be in coming up with more books for the hungry readers that want more of the same.
Hope to qualify for a pre-release of your report
James, the above ideas do make sense and it explains a lot about why some minor changes that I made a while back, that went against the Google suggestions, improved my sales on one particular book. In fact, every month, that book alone now pays over and over for the cost of the original Kindle course that I bought from you. I now wonder if it could do even better.
James,
You are right on. In the past we have all made money by throwing some PLR articles together and putting them on Kindle, with little regard for quality.
But no more! If we take this publishing thing seriously and put just a bit more work into it creating quality, niche directed ebooks the sky’s the limit.
Here’s to believing 2012 will be the best year yet for serious Kindle publishers!
Hi James, I would love to do a thorough review of your product.
My journalism degree has been sitting unused for 25 years, but your webinars have ‘kindled’ the fire once again (horrible pun). I now have to get up off my behind and start writing, editting, interviewing and selling once again….
Thanks for all your encouragement,
Jerry Kuzma

Over the last 3 years I have purchased one “course” after another from the Gurus who had the “turnkey” Kindle process.
Each time it was just before the Kindle rules changed. I just can’t seem to find the right “wave” to catch a ride to some success.
I have no confidence that Social Security is going to be there in a couple of years for me. I’m just trying to be prepared.
It’s just discouraging that every big course, software, database tool becomes obsolete just after I spend my money.
Kindle books are the only thing that have made me a few shekels. Very few. But it gives me some hope.
A review copy of the new course would be nice. I’ll probably give buy it any way.
Nice post by the way. Thanks for the heads up!

Hi James,
finally someone with a fresh approach to the whole Amazon Kindle thing. I want to get into Kindle asap and I actually have someone here in the UK that has already written and published education and childrens stories. I will be outsourcing my content creation to this guy. Having said that, I am really pleased to hear that Amazon got rid of all the PLR stuff that was being published but I am still concerned about some of the really bad content that hits the Kindle Market. A recent WSO suggested outsourcing the content to the Philippines. Well, I really don’t know if that would be a clever move after reading some emails etc that were written by these guys. I mean bless them all James, and I would really love to help some of them out over there financially, but most of them can’t get a decent paragraph together.
I love the fact that you are there buddy and I think I was one of the first to buy MNF from you only God knows how long back.
I would be a great case study for your new product mate and I am waiting in anticipation for it’s release.
All the best and all success James
Geoff
Hi James,
I have read this thread with interest but would also like to add to the conversation.
As a qualified librarian and journalist, I have been in the position of looking at ebooks from a consumer point of view for most of my working life.
In the public library sector, we shied away from the kindle platform and opted to purchase titles from legit publishers for our patrons and which of course, complied with collection development policies. Kindle ebooks did not meet our criteria because the content was poor, as was the writing quality.
Looks like market forces will always dictate what is bought and sold, and obvioulsy Amazon have finally responded to the fact that there is a massive market out there, far beyond the purchasers of PLR pulp. For example, libraries purchase huge volumes of product for patrons to borrow – and they do not want to borrow rubbish.
This is just one small example. I would also like to say that as well as good content, a book should also be well written. Hopefully the next wave of kindle content will be characterised by well written prose. It is actually the key to ensuring that good content makes it’s way to centre stage, in front of millions of eager eyes.
I for one am very pleased that some standards are starting to be set. On a personal note, I actually believe it is unethical to sell something to someone when you know it is rubbish. So bring on the good oil sooner rather than later.
The Kindle platform has, I believe, been a second hand option for purchaing reading material and I am pleased that Amazon is able to take the concept to the level I believe it should have started at.
My view on PLR is that it should be licenced to one person only and at a price which reflects it’s value. This would also ensure that quality is maintained and the material is used in such a way as to provide a good consumer experience.
Best wishes,
Carol Clifford
I think one of the biggest problems we have RIGHT NOW is that some of this stuff works some of the time. I’ve gotten just about every Kindle course that’s been put out and one course will say to DO THIS while another course will say to DO THAT. I have several books up and believe it or not, they all do right around the same. The first eBook I put up was after doing Google Keyword Tool research. The second eBook, I went off Amazon’s very own search box to see what the search box itself SUGGESTED. I picked one of Amazon’s suggested searches and that eBook started making sales the very next day. The last eBook I put up was based on modeling off a similar high ranking Amazon non-fiction eBook and it too is doing fine. All three eBooks make ON AVERAGE, right around 50 sales a month.
I would really like to see a course with something a little more extensive when it comes to finding niches, creating titles, and descriptions.
To be honest… Almost every course I’ve seen hits these elements a bit here and a bit there but in the end, there still seems to be a fair amount of guesswork.
If you can show us a way to leave as much guesswork behind as possible, I would certainly be interested.

Hi James,
Very helpful insights. I have only just started to get involved with Kindle Publishing which appears to offer ground breaking potential. I realise you have been using this medium for some time and are considered one of the ‘Kindle Experts’ so I greatly value your advice and comments.
I compiled 2 ebooks last year but put them on one side believing they were not good enough. You have inspired me to publish them to Kindle – something I shall do this week and keep fingers crossed!
Your future thoughts will be valued and I look forward to details of your Kindle Triangulation course (have you a date in mind?). If a review copy is still available I promise to give it my immediate attention and post my thoughts and comments (particularly as someone new entering this exciting market for the first time).
I’ve been devouring all the Kindle publishing courses and info I can find this past year and now have 5 books in the Kindle store. Not raking it in, by any means, but getting a regular check for the first time since I’ve been online, even committing the 3 mistakes you listed! But your keyword research advice does indeed, turn things upside down. Many marketers still advise using Google’s Keyword Tool, as well as aiming for the long tail phrase for titles, etc. I’m going to switch things up and see how well I do. To that end, it would be awesome to work with the Kindle Triangulation Course.
Here’s to a great new year to you and yours.
I am very excited, James, to know as soon as possible details about your new Kindle publishing strategy. I can imagine his value because this blog post is an amazing piece of cake and helped me. Honestly, I am interested to know and apply what really works for Amazon Kindle. I need to make some money this way but I am convinced about a simple but very important fact: today, the very big mistake in Internet marketing is to use the same “template” to do a business. To be successful we must be creative and to have a personal approach. But to achieve at this a lot of good information is needed. Here is the place of your public contribution with a fresh know-how. That is why I am a proud subscriber on your list.
Great post James I am not a kindle publisher yet! but you have gave me a few ideas, like use amazon and other like sites to gather info on sales and popularity to determine the niche that is ripe for the picking! thanks
I have been going around with the idea of Kindle publishing for a while now. Following your Kindle webinar earlier last year. The infofrmation you provide here is great stuff. Now that I have time to start this business I will take these 3 points as a guidance. Thanks James for sharing your knwoledge so abundantly.
Having just started Kindle publishing less than 48 Hours ago these tips will be amazing for me.
Thank you for these. I hope to be reaping the rewards soon.
I got started with Kindle publishing in part by using your course, and published one of my ebooks in the Kindle format. Always meant to add a lot of other books to my credits, but got side-tracked.
Might have been just as well, since soon, I’ll be getting the upgraded instructions and I probably would have wasted my time
Would love to get a preview copy of your new course so I can get a jump start while people are still busy buying stuff for their new Kindles.
Thanks so much.
Elisabeth
The information sounds good at first glance. I suspect there are only a handful of people making any real money with Kindle. Everyone says they have the key to unlock profits in this or that. I’m always skeptical. Why spend time and effort teaching others if you are “killing it” with Kindle book sales?
Thanks for this post, I have caught the Kindle bug and after spending over a year writing my first book, I will publish shortly.
I have just seen so much information about Kindle appear in my inbox, and I am trying to make sure I get this right. So much to learn, and already heard a few different opinions, who to trust?
Will enjoy the ride and hope I get it right!
Hi James
Like Facebook Amazon is becoming the next great thing to get into and as soon as there is a buzz about what you should be getting into, out come all the magic buttons and shinny object courses from these so called marketers that only want to make a fast buck and do not care about you.
As a respected marketer James I am sure this course will be easy to follow, direct, to the point and will work to improve the conversion rate unlike a lot of the other courses out there.

Hi James I am currently in the process of setting up my own site – getkindlebooksfree.com and I would be interested in your new strategy and what your findings are in your Kindle Triangulation Course which your about to release. if your going to give away 25 advance review copies, I would like to include myself on the list of lucky participents so that I might implement some of your stratagies. The bottom line here is if you have the answer to keyword search within google and amazon for a particular niche we all need to know what it is.
Hi James,
Thanks for the great information! I was quite surprised to find out about the Google keyword tool issues but am very glad to know this. The timing is perfect. I’ve been publishing ebooks to Kindle for about a year now using a lot of the techniques learned from your webinars but am just now in southern Florida for a month for the sole purpose of mass publishing to Kindle. I’m looking forward to your new product on Kindle publishing.
Thanks
Joseph
Really a good read with some valuable information. I can see how it can really affect the type of research that we would do for finding the proper topic to write about. Thanks for saving us some time. Maybe we can turn out more e-books for Kindles now.
Hi James
I just want to thank you for your points on Kindle strategy. To me it qualifies as real content. The content is on target, and it is part of what everyone wants know.
I note these gems were not found on the road side but had to be mined and polished so that their value could be easily seen.
I have a goal to start my first e-book next month and recognize now the standard I should be reaching for.
Thank you once again
James H
James,
Those three points are real head turners! It takes a good man to say, Don’t use MY niche finding product to find your Kindle Niche!Go Broad and Go Deep too. That should maximize the work put into a subject area – creating series of books. What I’m really interested in is how you use pen names and then further promote with those pen names – or don’t you? Like if someone wants to know about the author of a book written under a pen name, what do YOU tell them?
Hi all
Just getting around to understanding kindle, I downloaded the PC App Monday since I don’t have a K-R. I do have several ideals on what I want to put on there but like James said a person needs to get it right the first time.
Keyword research is always been a problem for me there needs to be a simple way to understanding it more so one can get the most out of there time.
I would like to see more on the How’s and What makes this work so I can figure out some of my titles as well as keywords.
Hats Off To James ! Once again you have done it again. Market Research is the first and most important step in any business building venture. Data collected by third parties can be contaminated by the very methods used to collect the data and third party sources from which the data is collected. It’s always important to check if possible directly with the market itself, in this case Amazon. I’ve found the same for keywords that show minimal amounts of traffic in Google’s Adword keyword tool, yet all the time wondering how could this be? From news sources and word of mouth it appears the market in question is much more in demand than Google’s Keyword tool reflects. James your insights are exactly what I needed to move forward and not miss out on this lucrative market. Bravo Amigo! and Thanks Once Again for your invaluable insights into Online Marketing…in this case Amazon Kindle Book Publishing.
James, you brought out several excellent points. That’s why you’re always at the top of your game, and more than that, willing to share your knowledge and experience with the rest of us. Plus, you keep it simple and easy to understand. Keep up the great work!
James, what makes your Kindle Triangulation Course better than any other Kindle course? I admit I do see the wisdom in the “3 common mistakes” post but every Kindle course I’ve studied has some good techniques. They also had some techniques that were not so good. I would love to put yours to the test. If they pan out I’ll provide a big testimonial. You see “the proof is in the pudding”.
Hi James.. Thanks for the insight. My understanding is to locate a niche, check it out in “insights” to see the potential as well as you identified in Amazon and go from there. I have also recently read about picking a niche and putting together several products in one niche to “play off” one another..if they like one, chances are, they’ll purchase another…or create a series..I think this concept is masterful.
I haven’t started publishing yet..but will in the near future. I’ve been following you for a long time, and want to thank you for all of your teachings in the past and what will come in the future. I look forward to seeing your new product.
Thanks
Valerie
James, as always, you have an uncanny ability to be on the “cutting edge’ of marketing. Today’s blog is full of useful information, minus the fluff. Each of the three points carry with them a critical point about this niche. Kindle is not your traditional niche. To be successful in Kindle requires a rethinking of of the niche business model. Those who can understand and diligently work to apply this key point stand an excellent chance at being a part of the next big opportunity.
James, I always read your KINDLE research with great interest. In my opinion, you are leading the pack in all respects! You re an inspiration for the “regular gal or guy” that wants to work toward good, steady, honest income.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I fully believe that KINDLE is the “NOW” and the “FUTURE.” As the “big media” is also seeing this too. And you put the real “nuts and bolts” of it all within my grasp.
I appreciate that you don’t wait until an opportunity is almost past to teach us, but keep us on the cutting edge. For that I am most thankful.
I’ve followed you for many years….buying MNF and others, it always proves to be a solid, REAL way to earn an income. And the more residual it is….like with the Kindle…all the better.
Thank you and I look forward to your insights about KINDLE sales, mistakes to avoid, paths to take to greater success.
Sally
I am not a Kindle publisher yet, but that is one of my main goals for 2012.
I am an avid Kindle reader, and I know how many books I have downloaded this past year — ebooks are here to stay and the market is wide open!
And yes, yes, I would love a review copy so I can learn exactly how to do this business!
I am a bit like Gene Higginbotham:
I will wait impatiently for your Kindle Triangulation Course to appear! I have spent thousands of dollars trying to make money on the internet and have not tried this approach. If it works for me, I will sing your praises forever; if it doesn’t work for me, I will most probably give up on the whole internet thing and consider myself as not having what it takes … strange, you gurus make it sound so simple.
James,
Excellent post and I couldn’t agree more of what you have said.
I think you can use both both the google keyword tool or even micro nichefinder with amazon search to get the best results. Perhaps you can create an amazon keyword search tool for putting up kindle books.
I also believe there is more to the amazon kindle ranking than just rank position, keywords and title of the book. I also believe it has to with reviews, and the description /overview of the book.
Warmest regards and thanks
Mike
hi james lately i have seen lots of PLR kindle books and some from warrior with yours, simply by knowing these mistakes, more is still to come and am certain with this combined know how i will make more sales. thank you
I have started a book using Google keyword tool as my guide – I will now check Kindle and possibly reassess my keywords! Thanks so much for the (obvious, really, in hindsight) tip. I look forward to your new course as I have wanted to be a published author since I was a child. Now it looks as though my dreams will come true!
Hi James
It is always nice to see people (who are experiencing success) willingly share info that will be a help to others.
I will be applying this knowledge in my marketing this year.
Thanks
PS: For those who are already making it, you can visit my website and see where you can join the call “Home away from home”
I always look forward to your emails as I know what I am about to read is information that will further my online business.
Thanks for this great Kindle info and I look forward to your new product. A review copy would be great.
Don’t know much about Kindle yet. it seems near impossible to learn and learn and learn and have a difficult time keeping up with the changes.
Spend Spend Spend, Learn, Learn, Learn and – What??? It’s changed! Learn again. One foot in front of the other – seems like I’m going nowhere – but I’ve been through this before. The top of the first hill seems to stay pasted in the distance. Trudge on, keep learning. take action – suddenly, that seemingly insurmountable hill is miles behind and you barely remember the summit.
These are excellent tips. For those of us engaged in different types of marketing it is so easy to forget that different rules often apply when launching into an unfamiliar area. The one thing that doesn’t change is the need to test test test. That’s the most basic lesson of all and I have no doubt that the more we dig into Kindle marketing the more of these gems of wisdom we will discover.
Hi, James
I very much appreciate your post concerning “Three Common Mistakes”. I need to implement those strategies in my Kindle EBooks.
I look forward to your Kindle Triangulation Course.
Verlyn Ross
James, as a long time follower, you always tell it like it is. I have made more money with your suggestions and products than any other “guru” out there.
It is exciting to hear that you have a Kindle product coming out in the near future. As I have seen the light, this is the format I am going to focus on in 2012.
Can’t wait to get my hands on this Kindle Triangulation Course.
Thanks again.
Hey James!
This is a very informative post, regarding Kindle and niche markets.
I’m involved in 3 different niches that I have GREAT ORIGINAL content for, that I’m preparing to upload to Kindle.
Your post gives me some additional artillery to use as I push ahead with my publishing empire…
**********************
Traditional Publishing
**********************
Over the years, I’ve been paid to write 7 different books & stories, by 3 different traditional Publishing Houses, but I’ve found that the traditional way of getting my books to the masses is time consuming and offers me NO CONTROL over the process…
And getting peanuts from the publishers for all of my blood, sweat, and tears has left a bad taste in my mouth…
*********************
The Kindle Bandwagon?
*********************
As a result of my frustration with Traditional Publishing Houses, I’ve decided to take my content and use Kindle and other ePublishing outlets to really kick some butt, by using some of the tips and advice that you’ve explained to us, in this post.
Your comments about Google’s search tool, are priceless. I’m sure that most of us blindly follow Google, thinking that everything that they feed us, is true… Well, as you pointed out, their results are inconsistent and should not be the only tool that we use to find profitable niches…
Using Amazon’s own “Best Sellers” is so obvious that lots of us probably didn’t even think of it!
**************************
The Practical Profits Team
**************************
Last Spring, I had the pleasure of meeting you and the rest of the Practical Profits Team, at a Conference, in Florida. I really enjoyed the information that each of you shared, you were even nice enough to take a picture with me, to show my little girl.
I’m sure that your new “Kindle Triangulation Course” will be over-flowing with practical, fun, easy-to-follow information that will help us really ramp up our publishing efforts with Kindle, and the other ePublishing outlets.
I’m really looking forward to learning the methods and strategies that have made you successful,in your marketing and publishing efforts.
Thanks,
Dr. Michael (The D.O.C.)
“Keep On, Keeping On…”
I’ve been playing around with affiliate marketing for some time, with no success.
I’m soon to be 67. My wife is becoming more and more disabled, due to a head-on crash. This means I have to do a lot around the house. We will soon be faced with having to live on about $800 a month. I’m hoping that Kindle publishing will be the answer, as I can do it from home, as I find a few minutes to work on a book. No set schedule required! And, no investment required.
I do own Micro Niche Finder, Ultimate PLR collection, Ultimate PLR Library, and Amazon Publishing Formula. I also watch all of James’ webinar replays.
Thank you James, for all the information you provide.
John Ball
Hey James! great information. Learning what works for Kindle has been a painstackingly hard process untill I realized kindle is so different from every other type of marketing in the fact that all the information you need to research, write and improve upon other books in the Kindle marketplace on Amazon’s website. By finding out what is selling, who the demographics are and how to set up a series of books to get repeat customers, Amazon can show you it all. I’m glad to hear the keyword tool is not that effective. Just look at the side categories and then drill down and you will find great keywords as well as looking at the best sellers and seeing what keywords and tags they have used. Am looking forward to your new course. To get the best information you need to invest your own learning and I appreciate your help in that area.
Thanks James!
Hi James,
As a long time follower and user of MNF, I am so excited to see this product release from you.
Sounds like ebook publishing is much like the Google updates we are all used to. We need to change to constantly improve the user experience and if ewe get too lazy to realize it, Google reminds us with a slap! But I do have to say that a big mind shift for me will be to accept that broad keywords are more important here than long-tailed so I am very much looking forward to your insight into that and the very convincing argument I’m sure you will provide.
There have been some excellent questions in the posts here and I hope you will answer them either on this blog or in the course. I’ve been a successful ecommerce owner in the past and a not-so-successful IMer and have always enjoyed writing and it’s been a foundation of my online promotion so I am optimistic that your course can propel me into a new, but related direction to more online success. I would love the chance to get a copy of Kindle Triangulation.
I am really looking forward to this! I had been about to go down the Kindle route but it looks like I would have been commiting the mistakes outlined in this post.
It would seem to make sense to hang fire for a short while (patience is a virtue!) and get the inside track from someone who is getting the results we all need.
I would be absolutely delighted to be offered a review copy and, as a new starter in Kindle, put it into practice and share the results.
I can’t wait – this could be a very happy New Year!
Thanks
Roger
Hi James,
Thanks for the post. I certainly have made a few mistakes. I have followed your training and have a few e-books going. (Slowly) I am interested in trying out your new product Kindle Triangulation, and would like a complimentary copy so that I can correct my mistakes and be a best seller.
Thanks again,
Don
James-
Number 1, your info on NOT using the Google Keyword Tool to find a niche market is a major, MAJOR revelation for anyone sliding into Kindle heaven for the first time. That one item alone will save you TIME, MONEY, aggravation and frustration. A worthy FREEBIE if there ever was one….
And #2, that you should actually target BROAD KEYWORDS!!!??? You’ve just unleashed a MAJOR GOLD RUSH. Which means that all the biggies are out there for the pickins: REAL ESTATE, MORTGAGE, HEALTH ISSUES, INSURANCE, GAMING, MAKE MONEY, DATING and on and on and on….
This entire industry has been flipped on its head. I’m sure traditional publishers are freaking out, as they read headline after headline about market share. The beauty is that even fiction writers now have a bigger and better platform and there’s no where to go but UP. Like you said, it’s a whole, new ballgame!
Getting back to you, James, you’ve already done the TESTING, TESTING, TESTING, another key issue with KindleKorner. I hope you will at least touch on in your course:
OUTSOURCING – right way, wasteful way.
RESOURCES – to help you with all that testing and data; how to find what’s ALREADY selling
WRITING SOFTWARE, WRITING SOFTWARE, WRITING SOFTWARE – for real people who are now going to have to write REAL books (if nothing but to keep it all organized and to boost that “series” of books you refer to)
MARKETING – including VIRTUAL BOOK TOURS (go google it – there is a community of like-minded writers who have now started to galvanize behind this phenomenal device, the Kindle.) Go get ‘em, James!!! You’ve picked the right time AND the right place. And yes, I would LOVE a review copy.
here in Brisbane Australia the massive closures of book stores reputable 30year plus family owned is all because of ferocious appetite of people access to online mediums to read that books. You know sharing right what you have is timely for anyone who looking to create an online income loves to research and write. What a match roll out your course mate can’t wait!If their going read something might as well be something I wrote with a proven marketing method. Thanks James
Dear James. Thanks for this post. As usual you cut through the fog of confusion and White noise like a laser guided missile to deliver a motherload of valuable information without any fluff or filler. Thanks again. Rob
Thanks so much for sharing your secrets to ebook success! I was just about to start making the mistakes you warned me about, and I’m so glad you steered me in a better direction.
Hi James,
I have no idea except this: you did not know about kindle business at all.
If you ask me, sure i will let you know the real way to make money in kindle, and the true of common mistakes you hahe posted.
Thank you and see you at the “jungle kindle”
Tasw
Hello Jones,
Thanks for the wonderful insights and tips you have just showed us on kindle publishing. I have been following your webinars (replays) for some months now, and i have not been able to access the various products and services due to my inability to pay for the products because paypal and most online payment merchants do not service my country in Africa (Nigeria)
I am really keen on having a profitable business online and i see Kindle publishing as favorable since Amazon sends checks to my country.
I would be delighted and would appreciate the kind gesture if i’m picked to get a review copy of your book. Atleast it would be a starting point for me to begin a business online.
Thanks for your support and keep up the good work. Remain Blessed
Albert
James,
Thanks for your input. I am new to the publishing scene but have already thought of ways to write several books on the same topic as well as writing similar books and in essence, competing against myself in an industry. This is going to be really fun. I can’t wait to the point where I am making hundreds of sales per day!! I’ve also got other ideas up my sleeve that i haven’t heard any of the gurus teach yet.
Would love a review copy!
Regards,
Debbie
Thanks for this informative and timely post, James. Your findings regarding writing 4 or 5 books in the same niche verifies the information provided in another product by a certain pink robed warrior, as does the information provided in the part about keywords. It is truly refreshing to see people coming out with products on how to do Kindle publishing the right way, and not just a bunch of “in theory, this should work like gangbusters” type information.
I had looked at publishing books on the Kindle platform in 2011 as a way to supplement my other endeavors, but the focus on uploading a bunch of PLR crap sort of turned me off. 2012 will see me returning to Kindle and refocusing my efforts, doing things the right way. It is all about delivering value to the end consumer/reader and that is what it is all about if a lasting, profitable business is going to be built on the foundation that Amazon has provided for us. that’s how I want to build my business, so the information you are providing is a breath of fresh air in a marketplace cluttered with account crippling crap. I would be very interested in receiving a review copy of you Kindle Triangulation course and offering my feedback and opinion. Just a word of warning…if it is crap, I will call it like I see it, so if you are looking for an honest review, I’m your guy.
Thanks again for the great post and great info you are providing on using the KDP platfom properly.
Brian
Wow James you have shed a new light on Kindle Publishing… Yes some of the old ways of doing business on Kindle has changed… I only have 2 books on there and the sales suck… I found my niche seeing what was hot on Google not Amazon… Selling use books on Amazon I should of known about the racking would be the same, you have open my eyes and other people too that read your Blog… We need to keep marketing our books on blogs and more to get people to buy. Yes Amazon does have the traffic but that does not guaranteed that they will perview our book and buy. Looking forward of seeing what you have up your sleeve. Would be so grateful to be choosen to review “Kindle Triangulation Course” This would be an honor for me…
Thanks for reading this because I enjoyed reading your blog it gave me new light…
Hope you have a great weekend…
Reg B.
Good stuff, good tips. Simple and direct and yet VERY important. I find that just a few simple tweaks can make a massive difference in your results. I am out to get maximum leverage so I’m always looking for new tweaks.
Here’s my story. I put up a few ebooks a few months ago. Sales came in but the results were dismal. I recently (…about 9 days) ago put up a new ebook. With this one I did something different. One little thing. That book has been consistently generating good sales on a daily basis. I stand to clear over $1000/month on that one title alone. It sales for almost $8 and people are scooping it up. As good as it is doing, I know that it could do much better. I have learned a LOT over the past week and one thing that I have learned is that category selection is critically important. I like your suggestions and will examine them further.
At this point I have about 12 ebooks up. All of them are generating sales but only one is really kicking butt. My objective is to have over 10 which can clear the $1000 month mark as the one is already doing.
Now this is easier said than done and one thing that I believe that some people miss is that there are real people, real customers out there who have to see and desire your books or it just isn’t going to sell. I firmly believe that it’s possible to put stuff out there and sell ZERO copies …or to get 100% of the customers to request a refund. Also, negative reviews can KILL all future sells so creating QUALITY products is a MUST.
I know many Kindle courses tell people to …essentially Mass Produce GARBAGE! …And with enough titles …you’ll do fine. I say …I can make MUCH more money with a few QUALITY titles selling at a higher price than you can ever make with even hundreds of JUNK mass produced titles selling for 99 cents each. At any rate sir, I look forward to your new “Kindle Triangulation Course”. I’m already pre-sold if the price is reasonable so …I don’t need the hype.
James, I have followed your tips and advice on internet marketing for some time and always enjoy what you teach and how you teach it. I already learned something new from your post above, so there is no doubt your new Kindle product will provide real, solid, and actionable information.
That to me is the key – you are someone who “walks the walk” – you are actually DOING what you are teaching and we benefit from your experience, your trial and error, and your expertise.
Kindle is truly a whole new world. Mind boggling really when you realize what is possible by providing good and useful information that can benefit others.
I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to receive a review copy of your new course. Keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for the opportunity!!
Hi James,
I really appreciate everything you do and have several of your products. The tips you give above make a lot of sense, and I’ll be taking advantage of them immediately.
I’ve been struggling trying to make a living online for three years tomorrow. I spent most of that time as a subcontracted website copywriter and made some money; however, that relationship is ending this month. I’ve decided it’s time to create a regular residual income while I pursue what I truly love to do: help people deal with their own or a loved one’s death. I’m a hospice volunteer, and I see a huge need for information, education, and support for patients and families, both before and after death.
If I could create a solid income that didn’t take all my time each month, I could move toward my passion and serve, even if I never figure out a way to monetize it.
Thank you again for all you do.

Hello James,
I find it intriguing and can’t wait to know about your findings. It actually makes sense that in this time and age when technology changes at the speed of thought, some things are overlooked by the masses while those who can foresee the possibilities, set themselves in a new category by virtue of arriving first. Don’t beat the suspense drums for too long please.
James I’m looking forward to receiving a review copy of your new course.
Over the course of the last year I’ve come across many of your videos. They are, in my opinion
some of the best instructional videos I’ve seen on the Internet. Please keep up the good work.
I can’t tell you how many times my expectation bubble has been burst after receiving an on line
product only to find it was full of out dated hot air. Usually a flood of launches and product packages hit the market place following a new Google search engine revision.
The old ways of doing business online are changing day by day. If we as Internet marketers
don’t plan to go the way of the dinosaur must change with the times.
As I look back over the years witnessing the changes on the Internet I have to agree with you
We need marketing our e-books on our web pages and blogs inviting more people to buy.
I must agree after looking at the stats you provided on you blog it becomes very clear that the wave for the
immediate future is self-publishing and Kindle offers a great platform to work from.
I’m working on my first manuscript and hope to have it proofed and finished with in the next few weeks.
It takes a great amount of research to collect enough information to create an original work. I’m hoping your new training might shed more light on the research process. It becomes really clear that with a little more thought its possible to create a series on the same subject matter.
Once again, thank you for the good information.

Good afternoon James,
I have found this information very unique and helpful.
In fact, even that Micro Niche Finder and Google keyword tool are not recommended for this approach, I have found that still you can used both tools for guidance and narrow down your niches. That being said, I will take your suggestions very highly and I will proceed to use it on my next niches hunting.
Thanks for your great support and talented staff on helping people building their internet marketing business. God bless you all!
Hi James,
what a breath of fresh air: someone who has been abreast or one step ahead of the markets for so many years, revealing some of his errors in observation and/or reasoning and how he is correcting them.
With all the enticing “tips”, “tricks” and “secrets” being hyped all over IM country, as a pedestrian marketer I love to read about how other people, too, are “experimenting”, “testing”, “observing” and “tracking”, and gaining traction from it!
Thanks for the actionable information and telling us a bit more about the mindset that keeps you on track for the long haul.
I too found that using the Google keyword tool could give poor results with Kindle books. As a result I started looking at the Kindle sales for the books in a particular niche as well. If the books in the niche aren’t selling then it is going to be a poor one to write in. However, I do like using Micro Niche Finder to initially explore an area of interest. It is great for popping up new ideas to explore. I would like to know what you think about the new KDP select option? I haven’t seen much comment on this, other than from Amazon itself. Is it worth using or not? Having been hit by the Kindle slap a few months ago this seems like just another thing for us writer/publishers to worry about!
Hi James,
Quite right about the Kindle being the way to go for 2012! I’m gearing up. A great bonus to your course would be the system aspect of it. How to set up, format, etc. Also, differences between Kindle and other publishing systems, when you can and can’t publish on multiple sytems, etc.
Looking forward to your WSO and hope I get a review copy.
Cheers,
Shelley
James,
So good to see your blog and information on Kindle. I guess I have been guilty of all three(3) mistakes and/or areas. Even to this day I have used the list a whole bunch of stuff method, hoping to sell something.
I now from past items we have invested in from you, that this Kindle product will be valuable and informative.
Blessings upon your family and business,
Walter
James,
Thank you for taking the time to not only test these strategies that you will be sharing in Kindle Triangulation but for also making this information available to others who are in or plan on entering the Kindle Marketplace. I greatly respect and admire you integrity and honesty in all of the products and courses you offer. I look forward to reviewing and applying your Kindle Triangulation strategies for my KDP business.
I particularly admire you for offering this for such a reasonable price. This will definitely help to stop the pilfering that has been taking place for the over hyped, over rated and exorbitantly priced courses that have previously been offered for upwards of $1000 and above. You have always offered great value for all of your content and I am confident that this product will be no different.
The long term ramifications of this product will not be fully realized for years. That is until many new and existing KDP publishers look back within a year or two and credit your Kindle Triangulation course for creating a new vibrant business and income in what has been very difficult times. This will be a life changer and a way out of financial hardship for many.
Best of luck to you as you prepare to change the quality of Kindle ebooks for the good, forever.
Blessings and I very much look forward to reviewing your course and also to the reviews from the many others who apply your course.
Best wishes for a very successful launch,
Beth
James,
For the aspiring writer, Kindle can certainly act as a spur to be active and creative.
Certainly you can labour to find those profitable niches but how about just having some fun? Write for the joy of it.
If you can make some money that’s fine but we all know that there’s more to life than just hard cash.
However, I did read recently that the two most pleasing words in the English Language are ‘cheque enclosed!’
I greatly appreciate your efforts.
James, as a copywriter, it is all about the INTENTION of the person on your page, right? This become clearer as more folks mis-understand, and possibly mis-use the Google Keyword Too. Numbers does not really give us buyer intent or even what the browser is thinking, feeling etc.
Thanks for opening up this potential pothole in my Kindle publishing. Waiting to learn more.

I am delighted to learn how to figure out rankings on Amazon. I knew there must be a way…but had not figured it out myself nor had I seen that tidbit in any other course on IM techniques.
I find it very encouraging that you will soon release your strategies and approaches. If these are as well designed and as well thought out as MNF, I can hardly wait…and would be honored to be one of the recipients of an advance copy!
May you have a blessed day,
Zona
James:
Have not paid much attention to ePublishing, until about two weeks ago. It is very popular and it is very easy to see why!
I have participated in several webinars discussing this subject. Several examples of “how-to-do-it!”
I have found that virtually all of that information is on “how to write” a book or how to publish the book, mostly on Amazon.
While that information is very important, I have not found much on how to strategically get the sales process going.
As you point out in this post, most suggest that you head over to Google to do your research.
When I read your information, it resonated with me. Of course your point is correct. They are holding their device and want to read about a subject — they do head to Amazon first.
They probably never get to Google! That was a WOW! moment!
In these short three weeks I have been able to publish four (4) books, and have had a few sales.
Then I reviewed your information and am now revising my Titles etc. I am looking forward to huge success!
Then on the content issue, you have opened my eyes to how easy that issue can be solved. Then the webinar was an added bonus revealing the benefits possible from the Public Domain arena.
I am committed to this genre and am looking forward to your the ongoing discussion that you have created. Very beneficial.
I eagerly read your emails looking for another nugget that you are reviling!
I am a doer and will implement, with enthusiastically the information that you have revealed!
I want to thank you! I will let you know how I progress through this jungle of information regarding successfully publishing books. This is where I am setting up camp in the internet marketing world!
All the success to you, Sir! Thank you for saving me tons of time and from another disappointment in marketing .
Thank you for sharing your information!
I just finished reading a report on Kindle marketing this weekend about using the Google search engine to find out what is being searched for. I wondered about the feasibility of this transferring to the Kindle because it seemed like 2 different animals. Now I see you saying that action is wrong.
I have just put up 4 books on Kindle within the past month and a half and working on some reports now but have to readjust after reading what you are saying. I wish I had saw your report before the price went up but I’m bookmarking this site to keep up with whatever tidbits you send along.
Kindle just seems like something you have to jump into right now so keep the tips coming.
